  • Possible location at Islands of Adventure for LOTR attraction

    So I decided to have some fun with google maps, and take a look at Islands of Adventure, and see where we might be able to squeeze in either a Lord of the Rings attraction or Island.

    Alright to give this image context, you can view the google map I created here... IOA room for LOTR - Google Maps

    Ok starting with the Top left and moving clockwise....

    Dark Red = Wizarding World of Harry Potter...

    Mint Green= Possible WWOHP Expansion... would have to relocate backstage areas

    Teal = Lost Continent... Probably the BEST place to put an entire LOTR attraction/Island... under developed, and could be completely revamped... or they could honestly just refresh the 2 attractions there, Poseidon and Sinbad... retheme Mythos... totally smart fit.

    Red = Suess Landing

    Purple in Suess landing = Expansion Pad

    Grey = Port of Entry

    Blue = Marvel Super Hero Island

    Yellow = Toon Lagoon

    Orange in yellow = Area that could be redeveloped into a LOTR area

    Green = Jurassic Park

    Purple in Jurassic Park = Expansion Pad.... maybe they could take the expansion pad and use the Camp Jurassic area above and make LOTR land.

    Red in Jurassic Park = Old shuttered Attraction

    Just some ideas... what do you think?

    Don't like any of the options. LC's attractions need a makeover, but I'd hate to see the area rethemed further. The Toon theater area needs to be used, but it's too small.

      IOA would rather count the hairs on its dog's balls than sack their award winning Mythos, so no LC is staying....for now ;(

      Again Toon Theatre is too small for anything besides WaterWorld(maybe?) or even.............
      Spoiler
      Rocky/Bullwinkle Dueling Splash Battle want plz >;3
      so really i don't think there's room.
      Don't think of a gun as a weapon.
      Think of it as a third arm that magically
      shoots bullets!

        Well how about this...

        What if they took the JP expansion pad, then Camp Jurassic and the old Triceratops encounter... there could be a full island area there.

          Wizarding World took up the last major expansion space for IOA. I really can't seem them building this rumored LOTR land anywhere in the states because of space limitations. Expect it to possibly debut in Dubai if that ever happens.

            I doubt that will ever happen. NBC Universal holds such a small stake in that park (if any), that buying a large franchise like LOTR simply isn't feasible from a business standpoint.

            Quite frankly, I'm surprised they did so well with Harry Potter considering their parent, General Electric, has a long past of cutting expenses at any cost. Just look at the Simpsons Ride.

            Cheap, cheap, cheap...

              HUH? Universal parks are known for not being that cheap.

                Sadly, anything in Dubailand has indeed become a faded dream, one of my favorite theme park enthusiast's made a trip to Dubai, with the latest photos of empty construction sand lots, and abandoned cranes (Universal Studios being one of them). Check it out: Dubailand - photographed, reviewed and rated by The Theme Park Guy

                Kinda sad seeing the massive Universal gate open to no where...

                  I guess I'm in the minority about not wanting a LOTR area.

                    Though I never got the relationship between the Simpson's with Universal except the appeal for universal sake to lure kids/or people of all ages. I still forget that show is still on the air, LOL, but...

                    I was sadly disappointed BTTF was replaced by the Simpson's but I was a little surprised too. The Simpson's ride was kinda fun, though the memory of Back to the Future was everywhere, and running through my head while experiencing the wait in line, and the ride itself. I thought the retheming fit, after all, the ride is based on Krusty the Clown's ideal theme park. A jaded clown, who in the past, has produced products that are dangerous to kids, and captures that fair-like atmosphere.

                    Has anybody notice how the Simpson's ride pays homage to the BTTF ride with 'Court House SQ' near the end, and you can hear some of the original sound effects once we're swallowed by Maggie.

                    The Simpson's ride actually reminded me of the combinations of the 'Turbo Ride' attraction that Universal Studios Hollywood CityWalk use to have. Where the IMAX theater is now located, anybody back in 90s remember? Where you had choice of simulator adventures from Dino Island, Haunted Mine Train, Devil's Mine Ride, to name a few coming to my mind. My favorite was this... I 100% DISAGREE. The Simspon's ride was not cheap. It was a great overlay. Much better than Buzz on If You Had Wings. Much better than Stitches Great Escape on Alien Encounterror on Mission to Mars. Much better than Enchanted Tiki Room Under New Management on The Enchanted Tiki Room. Much better than Journey into your imagination with Figment on Journey into your imagination on Journey into your Imagination (original). Much better than TTA on The People Mover. Much better than Pooh on Mr. Toads Wild Ride

                      I have been a fan of the overlay's at UO, here are the ones I think are best.
                      1. The Simpsons - Formerly Back To the Future
                      2. Disaster - Formerly Earthquake
                      3. Twister - Formerly Ghostbusters Spooktacular
                      4. Jimmy Nutron - Formerly hannah-barbara.
                      5. Shrek 4-D - Formerly Hitchcock theatre.

                        True, Universal Studios may not be known for cutting corners, but their sister company, NBC, is. Now that NBC and Universal Studios have merged into one large conglomerate, it's natural to see cost cutting measures company wide - especially when you have General Electric as your corporate parent.

                        Sorry, but I completely disagree with you there. The Simpsons was a cheap refit. Universal has admitted this themselves.

                        News I received from an attendee at the "Behind Closed Doors" at the Orlando Tourist Board Meeting, held at the Orange County Convention Center, on Tuesday, April 24th.:

                        Apparently, Universal Studios have admitted that the New Simpsons Ride will be a very cheap re-fit of the Back to the Future Ride, incorporating existing fittings, especially the cars.
                        The Simpsons at Universal: Don't get too excited just yet!

                        I won't spew my entire feelings on the ride (you can read them at this link), but considering the enormous potential of the Simpsons, Universal shortchanged us. They literally painted a few structures, added some new monitors along with a few posters and called it a new ride.

                        I haven't been on the Disney rides you mentioned, so I won't comment on that. But I will say Florida got the short end of the stick on this one, and for you to say the ride wasn't a cheap refit simply amazes me.

                        But each to their own.

                          @Jon a ride overlay is always a more inexpensive way to go than building completely new infrastructure. That being said, for an OVERLAY it was not cheap, or bad. I think they did quite well making the building and ride system it's own.

                            The Simpsons was cheap? Would you still be complaining if they had just kept the incredibly outdated BTTF? I'm thinking the answer is yes. Lose-lose situation.

                            NBC-Universal is no longer owned by GE, by the way. Not that it matters, since Universal Orlando's budget is internal. Half the resort isn't even owned by Universal.

                              I wouldn't consider the Simpsons ride a "cheap overlay" but I thought for sure they would put wind effects in there...
