  • Universal is moving 4ward with King's The Dark Tower

Finally, Universal has sealed a deal to not only make a major motion picture but also a television series of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower with Ron Howard attached to director the film and TV series! A film trilogy is more likely with the television series starting where the trilogy will leave off, there's is after all 8 books in all, with The Wind Through the Keyhole TBA.

Of course this leads to other possibilities for its theme parks, its no doubt King’s The Dark Tower is the answer to JRR Tolkien’s Middle Earth trilogy for Universal Studios!

I ranted about trying to essentially create an entire franchise before even finishing one good movie, but realized it was better suited to the movie thread. Anyway, I seriously hope Universal doesn't jump the gun and try to plan future additions on something that might end up bombing or being terrible (as a film). Force feeding epic, multi-part sagas doesn't always end well.

I've always imagined the Dark Tower series as an epic animated series, something similar to shows by Peter Chung (Aeon Flux, Reign) and Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack).

If done right, a Dark Tower film series could be seriously epic. I'm a HUGE fan of the books (and all of King's books related to the Dark Tower series), so I've been kind of hoping for something like this for a long time. With Opie directing, this could be a good thing.
