  • The Collapsing Bridge!

We went to USH today... and to my surprise, after exiting Kong 3D, instead of heading down the road to the picture cars, we made a right turn onto the collapsing bridge! I couldn't believe it! It was a rather short trip across, starting with the driver saying "wait, why are we going across the bridge, I thought they were blowing it up today" followed by an explosion sound and the collapsing effect. We exited behind Kong and then headed back down the usual route. All told, it probably added 2 minutes to the tour. Later on we bypassed the Earthquake, so maybe we got the bridge as a replacement? Does anyone know when they started using the bridge again? The last time I personally experienced it was a couple years ago. Cant say I was disappointed, and I'm sure people will be happy to hear the bridge is still operational.

That's really cool! I've missed that bridge. I'll have to go tomorrow to check it out.

I was just there this past Saturday and we didn't go on the bridge. But Earthquake is currently closed.

I was there about a week ago and we didn't get to do the collapsing bridge.
Is Earthquake currently under rehab or is it going to be removed? (I hope not!)

Earthquake is closed for a few weeks for refurb and they've been doing Collapsing Bridge on some days to make up for that.

Ah, great, thanks. We got to go over the bridge yesterday, but Earthquake wasn't on the route. My friend thinks she could see into one of the buildings, and it looked like the earthquake one was full of equipment and not running.

Love the bridge. They didn't tell us the name of it, though, and I couldn't remember it.

Why don't they leave the bridge in regular operation?

They only restored/reopened it when the original King King burned. Prior to that, it just sat unused decaying for YEARS so it could be it still has functional issues.

On a side note, been watching Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman on 4.2 (NBC's digital channel COZI). What a trip seeing USH back then...including the bridge
It may have zippity to do with doo-dah :ccool:

I was told that after the fire and the building/opening of New Kong, it causes far too much traffic on the tour route to loop through Kong, and loop around again for the bridge, so they took it out of operation again semi-permanently. Every now and then, like the past few days, they still use it.

That sounds like a really lazy way to attack the problem, doesn't it?

I think they could have the tram make a left turn after kong and drive the bridge backwards.

Not really. Those two attractions are extremely close to each other. I can totally believe it'd cause major traffic back ups. Traffic backs up as it is with just Kong alone.

Is it really lazy to be practical?

Yeah to have I dont know how many millions invested in a collapsing bridge and leave it offline because you built another attraction too close to operate both without a traffic coordinator.

Tuesday we went past the intersection before the bridge three times: once to go in Kong, once to go over the bridge, and once to go past it to other parts of the tour.
