  • PREDICTION: IoA will surpass Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2015 or 2016

Prediction: in 2015 or 2016 Universal’s Islands of Adventure
will have higher attendance than Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
They’re closing in and have the momentum.

Against the mostly stagnant Magic Kingdom resting on its 17 million a year,
    and against the even stinkier stagnating EPCOT, AK & Studios;
Universal’s far more ambitious (at least recently) two parks will continue to gain.

I wish Universal would build an even better Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood so Southern California would have another excellent theme park.
And I wish that they would build this before 2016.

I hope this doesn't happen, but I could imagine RISC (Rasulo, Iger, Staggs, Crofton--Eisner's spawn) continuing their risk-averse
    Disney Parks ways
and building a clone of Carsland at WDW that makes the original less special,
while Universal creates an interestingly different version of the WWoHP in California.

Universal's Steve Burke should take over as CEO of Disney when Bob Iger retires in 2015.
Maybe Thomas Staggs could remain with Disney in the #2 Roy Disney, Sr./Frank Wells role.

    What do you think?

I'm actually surprised it hasn't happened yet.

Disney seriously needs to stop thinking of artificial ways to keep people on property (Magic Express, Dining Plans, etc) and come up with some legitimate ways to keep people on property (attractions).

I think this is going to happen. The ae doing so much work, which will make more people want to visit the new attractions. Also, us Micechatters will want to see the construction. DCA had his during he 5 years, as the attendance increased during the massive redo.
The new Star Wars plot summery:

Episode 7: Luke discovers that Darth Vader is not his father, and goes on a search for his real father

Episode 8: Darth Vader is resurrected and goes on Jerry Springer, claiming he is Luke and Leia's father

Episode 9: Princes Leia is not Luke's sister, making him furious (we all know why...).

The Studios will see a larger bump in the coming years than IOA. That's where most of the development is happening. IOA is presumably getting a JP expansion though, as well as a lagoon show.

IOA doesn't have to add anything when the Studios is adding HP and the only way you are going to see both Diagon Alley and Hogwarts is to get admission to both parks.

Nothing has been announced for DHS yet, and I hate to say it, Carsland 0.5 isn't going to cut it. The ONLY thing that's going to beat HP is a Star Wars land.

With them joining the parks, I could see UO actually report the attendance together. Which if that happened they would actually pass Epcot.

A lot of the people who come to see the HP expansion will have already seen the original Wizarding World though.

Joining the parks? They're only connecting them through the train. You'll still need tickets for both, so it wouldn't make sense to combine their attendances.

I'm grateful to Universal for raising the bar,
but I'm disappointed in Disney for ignoring that bar.

I want magnificent new attractions in beautiful new or re-imagined lands
that make me feel like, "I've never been HERE and never done THAT before!"

Went to IAO for the first time in February and was completely impressed. Universal did raise the bar With port of entry, WWOHP. Even aspects of Super Hero Island was impressive. (SpideY) Yes, surpassing DHS is definately doable. I can describe The forbiddon Journey as the Haunted Mansion on steroids...The Park to Park pass will be the way to go to see both Diagon Alley and Hogwarts when this expansion is complete.

Recent construction pics of HP 2.0 at the Studios suggest a MASSIVE new land that will dwarf ANYTHING that Disney has done since they opened an an entire new park (Animal Kingdom).

P.S. from my post #10 above:
As our increasingly small world becomes more homogenized (at least the parts created by people),
I'd like theme parks to make a small contribution to creating architecture that is unique, and attractions that are original & exciting.

Disney World hasn't seemed worthy of being called Walt Disney World since the Animal Kingdom opened in April of 1998. What was opened from October of 1971 through April of 1998 (in 26.5 years) was, in my opinion, ten times more impressive than what has opened at Disney World in the last 15 years. Frank Wells died in 1994 and--except for animation--his death coincides with the decline of Disney.

I don't think the acquisitions of other properties are impressive cultural contributions,
so I'm looking forward to the overpaid Bob Iger stepping down in 2015,
unless he is replaced by former CFO Thomas Staggs.

It might cost a lot to get Steve Burke to leave Universal, but he might be worth it. He's
got guts & he likes to build great things.

So does Jeffrey Katzenberg. If he could sell his Dreamworks Animation (a great place to work!) to, say, Universal, he could be a great Disney CEO as a billionaire who probably wouldn't lead Disney just to enrich himself.

Or we could meld Matt Ouimet with my. . .

First choice: John Lasseter with Staggs as his #2 (his Roy, Sr./Frank Wells). And Staggs should be in charge of Lasseter's eating and exercise program. I want John Lasseter contributing to Disney for another 2 or 3 decades! Commenting on his health might seem rude, but
                          1. He's not reading this, is he.
                          2. Since I can't time travel to urge Walt to quit smoking, and
since JL might be the most Walt-like person alive,
this might be the closest I can come to saving Walt and his legacy.
                          .
                          .
                          .
So is George Kalogridis getting off to a good start at Disney World,
or is his main job to implement Staggs' $800,000,000+, MyMagic+ Famcuff bracelets? Talk about
                          "Limited Magic"
                          ! :shy:

Disney need to up their game if they want to compete with Universal. There is so much going on at the momnt that I can't wait for it to be finished. WDW, not so much

IOA maybe maybe not. DCA 2.0 passing MGM and DAK waaay more likely.
