  • Grinchmas 2013

Hello! With the holiday season quickly approaching, one of my favorite seasonal favorites is visiting Universal Studios Hollywood for their Grinchmas event.

Last year I was completely in awe of all the offerings the event had to offer like the snow play area, the tons of over-sized holiday decorations, and of course the tree lighting ceremony. It was definitely a highlight of my holiday last year.

However, this year already seems like it will be a little different. With construction taking up the entire upper lot, how does the future of Grinchmas 2013 look? Would the new central area that Universal recently opened up be a big enough space for the tree lighting ceremony still?

    Any insight?

After being there for HHN and seeing the central plaza, I'm pretty sure it's an OK fit for Grinchmas. There's a deceptive amount of space.

That being said, I'd *almost* be willing to put up with Christmas themed entertainment if they moved it to a new and awesome area of the backlot. As it is, I'm just glad it'll soak people out of the rest of the park regardless of location.

            November 28-30 , December: 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22-31

Looks like no tree lighting ceremony this year according to the website. (Speculation)

I heard from friends that there will be no snow or Christmas tree lightings this year. How sad! They also confirmed November 28-Dec 31

Last year was my first time at Grinchmas and it was awesome! I do plan to go again this year, if I can.

                      Re: Grinchmas 2013

We've never had a Grinchmas tree at IOA. I also believe we had some kind of frozen slide for the kids as well but I believe that stopped happening a few years ago. I would really be suprised if USH stop doing the tree lighting ceremony. USF does have tree lighting ceremony but it's tied to the Macy's Holiday Parade.

                        Re: Grinchmas 2013

Considering the Grinchmas Tree is going up in the center of Universal Plaza on top of the fountain, a lighting ceremony similar to years past will not happen.

It's possible a stage could go up along the edge the Plaza behind the tower and everyone sits/stands around the tree (like we're Whos in the town square) with snoap machines/lighting/speakers along the perimeter of the Plaza and/or on the rooftops of the surrounding buildings.

                          Re: Grinchmas 2013

Universal should do something like Merry Tram instead of Terror Tram and bring guests down to the backlot where they can experience a much bigger Whoville Town with snow and all the Holidays decoration.

During the day, Universal will operate Studios Tram as normal, and than once it about to get dark, it will turn into some kind of Merry Tram. I believe this idea will bring in more people to the park for the Holiday.

Last year they did do a song-and-dance thing at WhoVille on the tram ride. There was snow on it, and it was awesome.

                              They do this every year.

Sucks there won't be a tree lighting ceremony this year.

With the success of Horror Nights on the backlot, I wonder if next year they could build the tree lighting show were the mazes were.
