  • Jurassic World Soft-Opens

I might be biased because I like Jurassic World's color scheme way more than Jurassic Park, but I'm pleasantly surprised at how it turned out. Could have done with less TV screens, but at the very least it's nice to see everything with a fresh coat of paint, and the dark ride portion truly looks great.

The only thing I'm really disappointed in is the aquarium in the beginning - I'd have to ride it to be sure, but the screens really don't make sense spatially/something's off with the perspective in that the edges of the aquarium betray just how "big" they are. I do like the touch with the splash, though.

Thank you for posting...but quit honestly Im really disappointed with this "refurb"?? It seems at least from the "outside" portion of this ride that they got rid of most of the dino's and replaced that aspect with more sounds and tv screens..stupid! And correct me if Im wrong but did they actually remove the aniamatronic of the T-Rex and replaced with another stupid screen?? Wow..Universal Studios, home of the 3D, screen technology Theme parks...I cant stand those things, bad update. Guess Ill be going to Disney this summer instead

Based solely on youtube, this looks like a very disappointing, major downgrade.

-The majestic opening lagoon scene with bigass animatronics was replaced by...screens (oh, Uni)
-All action between the pop-up dino and the lift hill (dilophasaurs, the falling car) is gone, it's just idle scenery
-We are to believe that, in an emergency dino-on-the-loose situation, Chris Pratt's character from the movies would just be standing in front of a camera telling us to remain seated
-The exact same swinging T-Rex finale, but with the indominus also hanging out in the corner (?)

Total bummer that after such a long closure, this is all that was done.

          The Pros
The new effects and new Anomatronics look great
I enjoy the last area being themed with Tree's and no just a metal room

          The meh to bad
The Predator Cove seems way to empty compared to what we used to have (One Dinosaur eating, two dino's spitting water at you and the car crashing down, also way back in the day a funny Bad tree Joke that some brown eye later ruined by marking all Tree's as bad)
The older Dinosaurs they reskined seem fine but wish they were upgraded to feel more real...its been over 20 years really could not have upgraded them or just got new ones that feel more alive.

          My nit picks
I wish we had a Welcome to Jurassic Park Moment
Didn't they advertise the T Rex and IndomousRex were fighting? I don't see them doing that in any videos or even being close enough to do that

I'll have to ride it in person but what was my favorite ride before Harry Potter And The Forbidden Journey, is now back but only in some ways better. I feel like they either ran out of time or are relying too much on the new narrative for me and not sure why this feels like One step forward and two steps back.
I don't hate it but it lost its charm and only the end scene seems to be a 100 Percent improvement over what was there before.
          Happy Halloween!!!

If you're talking about the T-Rex at the end, it's not a screen; it's the same T-Rex swinging towards the boat as before but with maybe a fresh coat of paint.

The lack of giant dinosaurs in the opening is such a huge downgrade. What a joke. How is this improved? The 1996 ride with the giant dinosaurs and opening door is still more impressive than this.

I thought the same thing about the T-Rex when I saw this upload, but it has actually been significantly improved upon and now more closely resembles the more "active" Orlando version of the Rex, which I had always sort of envied.

Overall, I like it a lot, and I'm sure it's a much better experience in person than on video, but man, I really wish there was more going on in the "Predator Cove" section of the ride. The set is designed nicely and looks great, but that's an entire minute and a half of ride time with absolutely nothing happening.

Yea exactly!! I mean come on, Im not by any means a Engineer or person who creates these refurbs or updates for amusement park rides..but it also doesnt take a rocket scientist to know that I should probably add or do something with a portion of a ride to add (or just leave it alone) in the Predator Cove area...Im mean ziltch...there's so much that they could of done in there...for craps sake, add another dumb screen and put in that enclosure that the gates were ripped apart..something, anything???

And come to think of the last scene/drop with the TRex...even that got worse. As I do agree (after watching other POV's of this ride) yes the T-Rex does look amazing but I thought the biggest thrill right before you go down the waterfall, was the T-Rex pops out of the middle and roars right when you go down. But now he's out before you even go down, growling at that other (Hollywood dino name) dont recall what its called, but totally ruins the surprise element. Again, not impressed and this update will not teeter my want to go there over DL.

According to other Universal Fan Sites and Insiders, the Indominus Rex is currently operating in "B-Mode". In videos you can see more of the figure (it's arms, body, etc.) and the leaked images from last year reveal that it is, in fact, supposed to lunge fully into view at the T-Rex. We're supposed to be so impressed at this while it is happening that our attention is taken off the fact that we are literally on the cusp of going over the waterfall. Jurassic World was apparently not operating yesterday for softs, not sure if it will be open today or not but a lot of folks are hoping that they are working out the kinks and responding to Guest feedback before "officially" declaring the attraction to be open. Let's hope so, because I would love to see the Indominus Rex fully functional before the end of summer.

Regardless of what mode this "Indomastupid" Rex is in...it still takes away from the thrill of the TRex popping out of the middle right before you drop...bad update

The point of my post wasn't to dispute whether the update was good or bad. It was to answer another posters question.

It sucks they fell so far behind, I feel like the end is much better than before....but the Beginning is about tied with before but I prefer the original and the middle is like so confusing to me.
Why did They upgrade the Dinosaurs they were going to keep? They easily could have had those worked on a year before they went into construction and then we have Predators Cove which is just empty....I mean you could have made it the way it is and added Some Dinosaurs or a Falling Gyrosphere at the very least

Yeah, there is definitely some good and bad that needs digesting here. The finale will probably be much stronger once they get the Indo working properly. I enjoy the changes made to the ending, even the Rex (though I understand why some would prefer the shock value/surprise of him emerging from behind the waterfall). That is fine in my mind but in execution I was always taken out of the moment because the animatronic's pulley cables were so visible that when it emerged, it's inner mechanics were exposed by the figure's lack of an actual back which ruined the illusion, to me. This, combined with the fact that the Rex was not grounded before, meaning it was literally flying through the air without any ground support for it's feet despite the fact that they were clearly visible. Again, leaving me unable to suspend my disbelief but perhaps I'm just jaded from being able to ride so many times. I haven't been on World yet but the videos I've seen make me believe there is an actual T-Rex entering the room, even if it's not as surprising as before. The darkness helps.

I think the Stegos are fine, they are supposed to be lumbering anyways. One has to remember that any figures during this portion of the ride are going to be exposed to the elements long term so whatever they decided on probably needed to be relatively simple overall with their budget/9 month turn around time. I do think the Hadrosaur needs some work, I don't like how visible the underwater cage system is for it.

Predator Cove baffles me as well. It definitely needs something. I hate how cheap looking the dead Pterosaurs are in this scene. They come off more like stiff Halloween store props rather than organic creatures which have just been murdered. I also don't like the flashing screen which says "INDOMINUS REX HAS ESCAPED" as we pass by, as if we aren't smart enough as riders to put that puzzle together using the scores of claw marks, dead animals and broken enclosure doors around us.

In all? They probably should have given themselves more time to work on this attraction considering it's one of their flagships. 9 months simply wasn't enough and I know it was probably to get it open by Summer as to compete with Galaxy's Edge but now they know they are going to be fine either way. The ironic part is that by trying to rush themselves, it appears things are going to take longer to officially open. They may as well have done it more correctly the first time around. Slow and steady wins the race.

But like I said, there are ups and downs to it. These are just my opinions, feel free to trash them, hah.
