  • Crowds at Museum?

I'm planning to visit the WDFM on Saturday for the first time and was hoping someone could tell me how crowded it gets. Do I need to get there right when they open to avoid the worst of the crowds or is it okay if I get there around noon? Or do the tickets ever (gasp) sell out?

I am already planning to spend the entire day there (until closing) but was hoping to do something else in the morning, if I can. The museum is definitely my priority for the day. Thanks!

Depends on any events going on there. I have noticed in recent months that the galleries are more crowded, but seem manageable. Plan to spend as much time as you can in the galleries, there's a lot to see. Hope you have a blast.

when they first opened you needed to book an arrival time.

is this still being done, or is it open arrival?

          Re: Crowds at Museum?

I was just there the Saturday before Easter. I arrived about 2 hours before closing, and got in without any sort of advance notice. So I don't think it's a problem anymore. For the record, they recommend 4 hours to view the museum, and while we do feel we got a good overview at 2 hours, we could have easily spent 3 or 4.

As noted in another thread, they are now also allowing photos to be taken inside (sans flash), which is another change in policy since opening.
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?

I went there last year on a Friday afternoon. There's a decent amount of people there, but it's nothing overwhelming.

It's good to hear they're getting SOMEONE to go. I was there in 2009 and 2010 and both times, we got there about two hours before closing and were told that less than a dozen people had been through all day.

I think its always crowded in the museum. I went twice but I couldn't see anything properly.
