A ringside seat to 'Rocky' premiere

Sylvester Stallone, right, who wrote, directed and
starred in Rocky Balboa, delivers a faux-blow to pal Bruce Willis.

              By William Keck, USA TODAY

It was a flashback to the glory days of Planet Hollywood as classic cinema heroes and restaurateurs Sylvester "Rocky" Stallone, Bruce "Die Hard" Willis and California Governor Arnold "The Terminator" Schwarzenegger joined forces with Patrick Swayze, Sharon Stone, James Caan, Danny DeVito, Kelsey Grammer, Christian Slater and members of Three 6 Mafia at Wednesday's world premiere of Rocky Balboa, in theaters Dec. 20.

The film's stars, veterans of the old Rocky films, celebrity guests and members of Stallone's extended family all walked down the gold carpet on their way into the historic Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

Talia Shire, whose Adrian character has died in the new film, wasn't sure she wanted attend, fearing the film might prove too emotional for her. But she was there to show support along with former light heavyweight champion of the world, Antonio Tarver, who plays Mason "The Line" Dixon in the movie.

"No one wanted to do this movie," said Sly's brother, Frank. "But the movie had to be done. It was really important for his well being and his career. The last few years have been a little rough as far as the movie business, and now all of a sudden, the buzz is out there."
