So I saw the new Lincoln show yesterday, and on the way out, for those who don't know, they have a picture gallery of people who have achieved great/groundbreaking work with their accomplishments all categorized. Under politics you'll see President Obama, under film/TV you'll see George Lucas and Jim Henson, and then there's the music section:
To the absolutely shock of me and my friends we see a photos of Michael Jackson, and Elvis next to nun other than Miley Cyrus?!!! Am I the only one completely insulted and shocked at even the thought of comparing her to these two. I realize they are making a lot of money off of her, but this is selling out even on Disney standards. You have the King of Pop, who revolutionized music, dance, and music video, The King of Rock of Roll who changed the way people look at live performance and left a permanent mark on the industry, and then you have this completely manufactured girl who has done absolutely nothing for the industry except lower the standards of pop music even further. Not only can you not market her to anyone over the age of 10, she hasn't even been around long enough to prove how little an impact she will have when her time in the spot light finally does fizzle, and yet they place her next to two of the biggest and most influential acts of all time. The most obvious choice would of been Queen of Pop, Madonna, (who almost ever female pop star for the last 20 years owe their career to) but giving her several controversies I understand why they shied away from her, but still there are dozens of other musical acts who could have been put in her place: The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra, Whitey, Celine, Billie Holiday, Aretha, Patti LaBelle, Cher, Barbara Striesand, ...the list goes on and on. The point is these are people who have actually managed to grasp some artistic integrity. People who have written a song, who can play an instrument, who can actually sing! People who took in active role in how the music business works and will forever be remembered for it. I'm sorry if I'm taking this too seriously, but I really think this is just insulting to our intelligence. Her photo is across from Martin Luthur King Jr, for God's sake! I would strongly consider taking an active role in getting this removed.
