Why aren't you allowed to discuss how it works? I was in entertainment for 7 years, was there a rule I wasn't aware about?

The auditions usually work in the same fashion, they measure you, they look at your physical appearance, and if you're what they're looking for at that point, then you will go on which will sometimes include fittings and a bit of acting. They can also do call backs as well. Each audition is sorta unique.

Then why say anything at all?

You actually are discussing it in public by saying you can't discuss it in public.

I don't think there's any big secret to this. I think someone is just being a little dramatic and doesn't want to give any advice, so she says "she's not allowed to" instead of just not saying anything at all. The thing with advice is that if the young man asking for it does not get a job then he might feel bad that he took the advice. But if someone is asking for help looking for work I think it's nice for everyone to throw their two cents in.

In my opinion it's rude to tell someone you can't tell him something. Just don't say anything then. Otherwise, you kind of tease the poor guy by saying "I know the answer to your question but I can't tell you!".

That feels kind of mean spirited of you which I bet was not your intent.

MrsMonroe gave some good general advise in her first post. The fact that she reached out is both admirable and helpful.
