Howdy Pards,
Well, the Ebenezer Scrooge in me has a tendency to have a little sticker shock at the cost of some of these treats. I suppose that's the only sad thing about it...that uneasy feeling that someone is doing their absolute best to rip you off...rather than provide a wonderful holiday treat in celebration of the season.
$10 for a single candy apple? $5.00 for one cookie?
But, there is no denying that these items truly look good...and, if money were simply not an object...it would be a joy to enjoy them I suppose...
Perhaps it has always been simply my lot in life to find joy in less expensive things. I remember long ago in the dime stores along the Main Street of my ol' hometown...they had
a wonderful little plastic reindeer with candy attached...you can still find those reindeer in antique stores and today they will run you three or four dollars...sometimes more...no candy. But back then...back in Christmas Past in my ol' hometown...you could buy one of those little reindeer WITH candy for something like 50 cents or so...
I've gathered quite a few of those little plastic reindeer in my lifetime...must have close to 50 of 'em now... They bring back warm memories of those years when I was a boy looking forward to the magic of Christmas. To me, it was always the Season rather than the day itself that had so much magic to it...little inexpensive treats...that little white bag of Christmas candy...half a pound I think...for only 50 cents.
Ah...but those days are long, long gone now. Today they are actually charging TEN DOLLARS for an apple covered in a thin layer of candy. Today they are actually charging
FIVE DOLLARS for a little Mickey Mouse cookie or a cupcake...
Oh how I fondly remember Mom's Christmas Cookies...still warm from the oven. I remember putting the frosting on 'em, and little candies... I think the whole project back then...maybe 24 to 36 cookies I suppose... cost us under $5.00. But the memories...all these long years later...are worth millions to me...millions.
So...just looking at these Disneyland Christmas Treats brings back valuable holiday memories. Sure wish they had a more affordable price tag on them. But, hey, Disneyland treats are only for the rich people to buy these days. The rest of us get to look for free.
Mom's ol' Christmas Cookie recipe is probably one of my most valuable possessions...
Oh, how I long for a visit from the Ghost of Christmas Past...

Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail.
