    Well, I wouldn't go back if I were you. I never appreciate being treated rudely. It does sound like he treated you like a kid or teenager, and that implies a complete lack of respect, which is completely unacceptable.. Do they not understand that those types of attitudes and behavior come back to bite you? I'm sure eventually you will return Kevin, but I don't to ever plan to pay to play there. If for no other reason than their ridiculous rule that I can't even escort my own kids if I don't pay to play as well. RIDICULOUS.

      Nice update Kevin.

      Regarding the Yeti, you can see three of the holes drilled in the ceiling where cables were threaded through. While it may seem easy to restore some motion in the Yeti with the Pinocchio-fix, remember that the Yeti weighs something like 20,000 lbs, and its arm looks like a small car. The Yeti was shifted, at least as far as I can tell, so that its weight is more evenly centered so that it can withstand the movement of one of its massive arms. Still, this would create a lever action which would still weaken the base, albeit to an unknown smaller degree. The arm is moved in the horizontal position, and the movement of the Pinocchio arm would be parallel to the ground, thus decreasing torque on the base, so if the Pinocchio setup does work, I doubt that the arm will swing downward, more outwards and back in . . . Personally, I don't think they'll be able to pull off the Pinocchio movement (no pun intended), as the thing just weighs too much and any movement risks having it crash on the track.

      Regarding the mini-golf episode . . . at my local mini-golf you have to pay for the golf clubs and ball. I never really thought about walking the course without these as it is an older course. Obviously, with the new mini-golf course in your blog, I could see a situation where 'punk teenagers' could loiter on the course without paying, thus detracting from the experience for the paying customers. The manager may have had to deal with such problems, especially in the opening week. While you obviously aren't a "punk", on such rinky-dink operations it is easier to just apply a rule to everybody.

      Your encounter with the manager was funny, almost hilarious, given that the mini-golf owner probably doesn't send its employees to a Disney University equivalent to learn how to deal with guests. A simple rule, pay to get on the course, is easier to enforce. I think it is a bad policy that parents are not allowed on the course, but wear and tear on the course (especially on something that new) happens with everybody on the course, not just those playing mini-golf. At my lamo-golf course some kids would plunk down money for just two clubs and a set of balls and rotate using them . . . imagine a group of ten teenagers doing this.

      With a brand-new expensive course, you can beat that the manager/staff is under pressure to recoup back the investment as the higher ups will be looking closely at sales totals. Given the great job that was done with the course, I sadly feel myself siding with the owners policy, at least of having paying parties on the golf course (though the manager was rude). After all, you can't loiter around Main Street taking pictures while your family buys tickets, saying that you are just there to take pictures and not ride the rides. Just having a non-paying customer take photos is a visual intrusion, and lessens the experience for people who are playing mini-golf. I can't help but remember the scene in Spies Like Us where Bob Hope shots a golf ball into the tent with Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase quipping "Mind if I play through?"

      Kevin Yee: "Mind if I play through?"
      Manager: "Kevin Yee! What are you doing here?"
      Kevin Yee: "Just taking some pictures . . . wish I was at Disney."

      Sadly, outside of the property, you can't expect everybody to treat you like a 'guest' . . .

        ^ That's a valuable reminder about the weight of the yeti arms. That begs a question: can't they dissemble the existing arm and put something lightweight in there for the marionette version?

        As for the golf policy, as I said in the article, I can understand the reasons for the overall policy (not the bit about parents, though). I just wish they could find a way to enforce unposted rules without condescension.

          On the golf course, there are 2 separate issues. 1. Taking Pictures, 2. Paying.

          What I don't get is why you think there's a pictures ban. The first step is paying to go in, and then go in, play the game and take pictures at the same time. Unless you try it out in this order, you have no cause for complaining.

          What I don't get about the management is why they don't direct you to the ticket booth to finish the purchase. They walked you out instead of into the golf course as what every business should be doing.

          Which leads to Nextgen... I'm not sure what to expect, but its Disney placing more hoops into your vacation. As much as I like Disney, I don't enjoying planning my vacation to such a degree. I will have to consider alternatives.

            I'm cancelling my trip to the Uni-Putt-Putt now. That's just ridiculous. I'd rather take my family of 5 to Bahama Breeze. I doubt they'd throw me out.

              90 bucks to play mini golf? That's ludicrous! Even for a family of 4 or for whatever how many you had with you.

              I wouldn't play there for that matter alone. I get better treatment at Boomers for a lot less than what I would pay at Universal.

                Well, we were preparing to buy the double-course admission ($25 adults, $20 kids) so we could play both sides. It does seem a bit expensive to me, too, but then again, having to pay for four rather than just me is probably a big part of that

                  So in recapping:

                  You entered an attraction you hadn't paid for and started snapping pictures. And then management asked you to stop, and escorted you to the front where you paid to enter the attraction.

                  Weird. No?

                    The Yeti looks horrible. Close the ride for 4 months and fix it properly. Matterhorn is closed for 6 and you don't hear anyone demanding a refund, do you? Just have the Yeti move his arm up and down in slow motion with the strobe light, like Harold does. Done, and no stress on the figure OR the building.

                    If they can't perform Fantasmic! correctly, I'd rather see them close it and restore Sorcery in the Sky.

                      The plans for the Yeti have been the same for a couple of years now. The plan to fix the Yeti was just to keep the Yeti in the same place and not have him move. All his functions still work and there isn't a problem with them. So eventually the Yeti will move his arm and mouth and other functions, but stay stationary and will not move towards the track.

                      Everything has to be cleared by Legal and Safety, they are controlling most maintenance issues nowadays. That is why it is just simpler to turn things off than get the Legal Dept involved and then get Safety and Overhead Safety involved. They are worried about lawsuits involving rides, so they are afraid to do anything anymore.

                        I think the putt-putt thing is being a bit melodramatic. I wouldn't say you were 'thrown out' of the place - you were asked to leave the paid area. They didn't deny you admission or reentry.

                        So they only let paying customers into the playing area. Not a shocker. At their prices I'm sure they are trying to combat people 'sharing' or generally crowding up the place.

                        It's courtesy generally to approach management when press are on location to do reporting or take photographs, especially 'inside' a facility. It's just professional courtesy. Then one would also would have known the rules or constraints.

                        I doubt the parking structure comment went over so well either.. not exactly helping the situation.

                          Will it bend its body? Seems rather lame. I'm not sure the fix will be any better.

                          The cheap solution be replace the whole thing with rubber body overlay with a metal skeleton. Put it on tracks and move it forward. Have it bend at the waist for extra movement. Hire the guys from the Monsters cable show to construct the body.

                            It's hard to capture completely in words the conversation, but the 'parking lot' comment wasn't me being sardonic; I was confused by his question and thought he actually meant to ask how I got here. I think I got the order of questions mixed up and he actually STARTED with that, which is why it was all the more confusing.

                              I can imagine that, with the mini-course just opening, there are a lot details still missing from what will be the finished attraction. Maybe signs that say "paying guests only" or some other such thing. My bet is that this manager has had to deal with a lot of people wandering into the property during and just after construction. Securing the area through proper fencing and other physical features (including signage), staffing and line management can almost elminate "incursions" such as yours.

                              My bet is that the staffer was most concerned and frustrated to know how his people / systems allowed [yet another] non-paying guest into a paid area? People with poor interpersonal skills shouldn't be charged with running high-end attractions!
