Wow!! What a great story. I love trains. I have a train that goes around the top of my room on a shelf. I have always been fascinated with the Disney trains, especially the ones at Disneyland. - I just want to say THANKS to Steve on his amazing story. Very much captivating and suspenseful. Once again, you did a great job Steve, thanks!

Hello and thanks for all the magical disneyland railroad stories! I had the privilege of riding aboard engines #1 and #2 and have also stood on top of #3and #4! It was on #4 when I first saw the fire! Not everyone gets to see that! Just ask! Well I really enjoy the tender rides aboard #1 and #2 along with the glory upon pulling into main street station or new orleans square! They are small but real and unlike any other! They are unique with colorful makeovers! I wanted to say that one of the engineers told me that they are working on trying to install some seating aboard the tenders of #3 and #4 and I'm not sure of #5 but I'd say likely! Thanks and keep the insight coming! I enjoyed historic pictures of what these engines originaly looked like! Thanks, god bless! 07

Good one Steve. Bringing the details to life makes the ride richer every day.

Being a lifelong rail fanatic, I wasn't surprised to find builder's plates on the locomotives of the DLRR. I was surprised to discover, however, that the plates on Nos. 1 and 2 were only very recent additions. I guess my mind has projected them backwards intoo my earlier memories. Thanks for the articles! You and I may disagree on some things, but there's no doubting your passion for the subject.

I'm glad to hear that your thought was that the plates on 1 and 2 had always been there. That was our goal: to create a tribute to the heritage of the engines, but have it fit in harmoniously with the overall theme and styling of the locomotives.

                Thanks!

Sorry, no. They were only available to roundhouse cast members, and Hortie Van only made as many as was ordered. The Railroad crew are a great bunch of folks, and I think it was nice that Disney gave them the chance to own copies of the plates.

                        Thanks, BassBone.

It's great that you thought the plates were always there! Through the years, as the brass tarnishes and is worn from polishing, they should look more and more authentic and beautiful.

Great article, Steve. I've ridden the DLR railroad so many times since I was an infant that I sometimes don't know just how ingrained in my memory the ride around the park truly is. Thank you! It's made me grow more appreciative of the love and care that the DLR railroad continues to have. Thank you!
