I'd just like to know if I'm the only one that thinks that the 50th Castle and most of the paint solutions in Tomorrowland look really cheap? The use of metallic and pearlescent paint (which is usually an accent) has become the one stop solution for making anything look celebratory. I don't mind when it makes a surface that is intended to be metal look suddenly gilded, but when you're spraying large fields of concrete or stone blocks, it comes off as what it is, spray paint. The "merangue" Castle is so saturated it looks like a plastic airbrushed cake decoration. Good thing I'm the only one who thinks this, the rest of the planet thinks it's fantastic.

I haven't seen it in person yet so I don't know how fake it looks, but it looks good in pictures. It does look incomplete though.

I think that a lot of people are happy it doesn't look like that "My Little Pony" ickyness of the concept drawing. Or that it wasn't actually reconfigured to look like a giant pink cake. Or that it doesn't look horribly drab like it did for years before this paint job.

I find that the color scheme is reminiscient of the most beautiful castle on the planet - Sleeping Beaauty Castle at Disneyland Paris. I think it is a big improvement over the squat, drab color scheme we had previously.

Fair enough. Reminicent yes, but the DLP castle is still pretty restrained by comparison wouldn't you say? It's the glitziest and least realistic of all of them but has it's own great look for sure.

I agree that the paint on this one had faded, but the Barbie comment mentioned earlier seems pretty on the nose. This castle is the most "scaled down" of any of them (designed to look bigger than it is) and so in turn the towers are supposed to get lighter in tone as they get taller to support the visual illusion of height and distance. The castle in less saturated color from Main Street will seem larger and more distant. Painters illustrate distant objects in art this way too, making them visually hazy. This is ignored and takes it into the SBC into the "Golf and Stuff" 13th hole realm.

Personally, I've loved the colors on the one at WDW. It looks the most like a castle, since you have the tall brick towers with the VERY pointy roofs.

I've liked our castle when it was white/blue but, correct me if I'm wrong, they added the heavy pink on turrets some years ago and when that faded out it didn't get fixed? Because I remember plenty of a light grey and blue color scheme from the past that wasn't faded, but meant to look that way. or maybe I'm going delusional.

The current look is nice, although I haven't seen any decent shots of it at night yet. I don't think we can say it looks like Neuchwanstein anymore, though.

I think photos don't do the new paint scheme any justice. In person its really amazing. However, I do think the colors can come off a bit too bold, but maybe thats just because we're were all used to the old faded blue/gray scheme of the past. But in the end, I really do like the new paint. It looks great if you consider the fact that the castle had practically no life or color in recent years since there had been no painting for quite a while in recent years past.

As for Tomorrowland... I just think all of Tomorrowland looks cheap and dirty. Tomorrowland's colors and poor themeing is something I'd expect of Six Flags Magic Mountain and it's really sad that it's at Disneyland.

Tomorrowland is a vision of a future that never happened, so goes the theming. Thank heaven it never did!

At least it's not a giant birthday cake like the one for WDW a few years back. Sorry, but that was just stupid. "Lets cover up the one thing thay most people associate our park with!"

Doh! You're right, that was disgusting. The reason they do that is they believe that anything outrageous will get them press and the more kitschy the better, so they go with the John Waters Castle. The guest is the last one they care about. You'd think there would be a more creative take on the castle if they were going to do something.

Disney on acid idea. ABC Extreme theme park makeover... I'd rather see them dismantle both castles and put them on trucks and tour them across the country and erect them in the opposite park!!! Trading thematic spaces! THAT would get them press. The trouble is most guests wouldn't notice. $$$$$ Imagine the preferred parking opportunities on those 2 vacant lots while in transit. (ok, so the moat in Anaheim might be a bit cramped and the Matterhorn would look a bit small.. but would you show up for that? like yeah! ..)

I figured it was 'over painted' because they know it will wear down. Assuming that, I'm fine with it myself. But if they plan on keeping it this strong, I'll be unhappy.

Yep, I'm willing to bet that the new paint scheme will fade in the southern California sun within a few years, and it'll be a bit more subdued.

At the same time, I think painting the castle the way they did serves as a dramatic example of the changing of the guard from Pressler and T Irby and their ilk to the new management at the top of TDA.

I like the new paint job on the castle. The warmer colors make the castle seem more inviting and less daunting as compared with the WDW castle. I do think it is a little too pink especially at night when they shine the pink lights on it.

And that "Vernian" future -- kind of bleak -- never fit in well with Disneyland's tone -- happiest place on Earth.

I don't think the Castle will be repainted for another five or ten years.

Perhaps by then the pink will be pale from sunbleaching?

As for the caslte, I agree with photos not doing it much justice. In person when the sun is shining on it, it glows and sparkles like you have never seen. Compare that to a drab, gray Cinderella Caslte and it is much better. The fact that the blue rooftops reflect the sunlight, the pink paint glistens, and the gold spires shine like a brand new penny help make it that much more beautiful.
