    Yay. I'm first.

Neat column, Steve! And thanks to the photographers for the pics.

Re: 3/18: Gurley Story, Pt. III

Sometimes a story takes a lot longer to put together than expected...
      That's the truth!

I had initially wanted series of articles to run a few weeks before the engine entered service, with the final installment running a few days after the engine was back. That was initially thought to be around November, and the first part ran in late October.

Of course, with Disney, sometimes things take quite a bit longer than anticipated. You know, the best laid plans of The Mouse and men...

Which is why the final parts of this article are running nearly five months after the first part appeared!

Thanks, SE. Without the help of talented and generous photographers, this article wouldn't exist. In the next installment(s), we've got some great shots of the rebuilding to show you, and some beautiful pics of the engine back in service.

A very interesting story, Steve, and the pictures are great! Many thanks!

The trains are such an underappreciated part of the Park. It would make for a really special tour to learn the history of the trains, ride in the tender, meet the engineers, and visit the roundhouse.

Thanks Steve. The Gurley is by far my favorite locomotive on the DLRR. Its wonderful to see her back in service.

BTW, anyone here who hasnt checked out Steves books on the DLRR should do so ASAP. They cover so much history, railroad related and not. Really good stuff.

Yes, it would make a fantastic tour. One you can't take at Disneyland, but one that is available at the Magic Kingdom in Florida (except for the tender ride...you can only do that at DL ).

Great article. I loved the jab at Disney marketing. Mostly they're pretty good, but every so often they do something stupid and ruin the experience they've spent millions to create.
