Disney volunteers help in the community
Walt Disney World cast members accustomed to spreading their magic around the theme park have also been spreading a little magic around Osceola County.

Local nonprofit agencies will receive $30,000 in financial contributions from DisneyHand, a worldwide outreach for The Walt Disney Company that provides funds through its EARS to You program. The program recognizes cast members for volunteerism by providing financial contributions to the agencies the volunteers choose.

In Osceola County, 22 nonprofit agencies will receive a portion of the $156,000 funds that will be distributed to more than 100 Central Florida nonprofit organizations.

Members of the Disney World cast have volunteered more than 5,800 hours at Give Kids the World Inc.

Caroline Schumacher, director of volunteer services at Give Kids the World, said the theme park provides a vast resource of volunteers.

Since the very beginning of Give Kids the World, Schumacher said, there has been a strong partnership with Walt Disney World. Volunteers perform a number of duties from serving breakfast and dinner to helping with landscaping and decorating the village run by the nonprofit during holidays.
