No NHL Hockey this year!

I'm a huge Mighty Ducks fan. Hockey season was canceled this morning.

Does anyone else care? I am starting to feel like the lone Duck fan who does

I am so totally with you on this. I kept meaning to start a hockey thread, but forgot. I am a HUGE Colorado Avalanche fan. My son's middle name is Patrick after Patrick Roy. Once he understood that he was named after him, my son assumed that his middle name was Patrick Roy, not Patrick. It is pretty cute.

When I heard that the Player's Association had finally agreed on a salary cap, I really thought that there would be a way for the NHLPA & the league to come to an agreement. I was sad when I heard the news that the season had been officially cancelled.

I haven't heard much uproar from fans about how poorly things were handled. And I am hoping that the NHL won't be impacted as much as Major League Baseball was a few years back.

What saddens me the most is that there are a few players in the league who would have been playing their last season this year. Hopefully, the teams will be able to let some of those players have a second shot at a final season.

Not having a season irritates me (even though I'm only a casual fan), but at least we get to keep the Cup here in Tampa indeffinitely! Hehehehehehehehehe!! :devil:

It sucks. I too am a huge Avalanche fan, and the highlight of my year is going to the Redwings game with my dad. (Redwings suck!) But I kind of knew it wouldn't be happining this year. The only thisg that scares me at this point is if next season gets cancelled.

I totally agree about the fears of next season being cancelled. I cannot fathom how upset some of the players must be.

IndyJn511, the Redwings do indeed SUCK! I have not had the priveledge of seeing the Avs play the RedWings. I did get to see teh All Star Game when it was in Denver. Awesome doesn't even begin to describe the experience. I need to scan those pictures sometime.

Me too! It was my 30th bday present, which was the same year the All Star Game (ASG) was in Denver. Our trip to the ASG was my 30th birthday party. We had been at Pepsi Center (aka The Can) to buy my jersey. We went to the box office to see about getting tickets for one of the practice sections. They had flyers up stating that there were Standing Room Only tickets available for both days of the ASG.

We asked about the standing room tix, but they only had singles left on opposite sides of the arena. Just as we were going to say "thank you for trying", the box office manager offered us two tickets at face value for both days. The only thing was that we had to sit one behind the other, but the front seat was on the glass.

The seats were incredible! We were on the bench side directly across from Roy's goal. We took our son, who was not quite two at the time, with us to the game. He had such a blast and fell in love with hockey instantly. What probably helped solidfy it for him was all the players that came over to say hello to him.

Let me tell you, I will never forget that experience. Having Peter Forsberg shooting pucks off the boards five feet away was so cool. I am going to have to show the pictures to Brian and see if he remembers the game at all.

Ah yes, I do live in California, born and bred. But my husband and I lived in Arvada for 3.5 years. So we were about 20 minutes, if you took surface streets. Both of my kids were born in Wheat Ridge.

My husband grew up in Arvada. All of his family is still there.

The last cool thing we did before we moved back to California was go to Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals. I will have to tell you about that experience a little later today.

Even though I'm fairly late on this post, I thought I'd add a bit more.

Up here in the Great White North, there has been a bit of hoopla (not to mention ANGRY people on the streets & news) about the cancellation. Since I'm a BC girl myself, I always cheer for the Canucks and it's been really strange not having hockey around this year, since I've grown up with it.

I agree with the above poster who stated that he's more upset about the supporting businesses who are losing out on money. One of my good friends works for Orca Bay (the company that manages GM Place) selling tickets/suites... he's gone from their top sales manager to barely working there. It's really sad... especially to see people who have worked their whole lives to get to a certain place because they have such a passion for the game and a passion for their work and then they get shot down because people are being to greedy. It just makes me mad
