  • Who remembers Animalympics?

I remember watching this on HBO in the early 80's several times as a kid. I know they showed it on Showtime and Disney Channel (somewhat edited) too.

    Here's part 1

I loved this as a kid! Good find!

It's funny because the turtle says it is the summer games, but there is bobsledding and skiing!?!

It was originally made to air on NBC with to go with the 1980 Olympic summer games and the winter games, but the US boycotted the winter games (Jimmy Carter was upset over the Soviet invasion of Pakistan or Afghanistan... one of the two), so the NBC coverage got scrapped. But they combined the two specials into one feature-length movie.

          Couple interesting side notes...

The guy who did the animation for Kit Mambo appropriately enough went on to direct The Lion King.

Another animator is Pixar's own Brad Bird.

I remember it vaguely as I didn't have HBO as a kid, but I know it was on almost everyday for a while.

I'd love to see this on DVD. You can buy it on VHS on Amazon for lie $30-something.

Amazing how only 4 people did all the voices.

I was laughing at the Dean Wilson part... if Michael Phelps was an otter....

And Joey Gongalong was a total parody of Mohammad Ali. Brilliant!
