  • POTC was the 1st ride movie,Now the next Disney Theme is...

    Tomorrowland!

    - Former WWE Heavyweight champion Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is teaming up with Disney once again for the movie 'Tomorrowland' , a movie inspired by one
of Disney's section of its popular theme park which carries the same name. This is the second time that Disney will take one of their properties and
turn it into a movie...as all of you know the ride 'Pirates of the Caribbean' turned out to be a blockbuster trilogy. The movie will be an action adventure set in space and is being drafted by Jon Lucas and Scott
Moore and will be produced by Mayhem Pictures who also produced Johnson's 'The Game Plan' for Disney. Variety reports that Disney is denying that the film is dedicated to the park's section, which houses the popular ride Space
    Mountain. (thanks to Colin Vassallo)

I posted it here since Im not sure what Disney section it can be on.

and whats funny is, the first time I read the first newsbit about this, it was going to be a Space opera

    EDIT: here a better article

Yeah, sounds like the main source for this article didn't know what they were talking about. And prior to those movies, The Country Bears had their own movie too. In addition, work had started on a Jungle Cruise movie, however, I'm not sure what the current status is on that.
Critter Country's a mess ev'r since the Country Bears were kicked out. Ya can't cover pooh with honey and 'spect people ta like it.

There was also Tower of Terror, the not so great made for TV movie and Country Bears which were loosely based off the attraction

I thought Tower (the film) was released first as a plug for the attraction? But yes, the article was definitely mistaken in either case, for resaons already mentioned.

              Attraction movies out so far:
              1. Tower of Terror (1997 - TV)
              2. The Country Bears (2002)
              3. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
              4. The Haunted Mansion (2003)
              5. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
              6. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007)

And if you want to count:
              7. Mission to Mars (2000 - released under Touchstone)

Along with this Tomorrowland movie, supposedly coming in the future are:
              The Jungle Cruise
              Thunder Mountain

It's too bad Haunted Mansion wasn't better. It would've been neat to see a sequel based on Phantom Manor.

Nope, Tower the attraction came out first, around 93 - 94 I think? And then the movie came out on TV. I think they did that just to get people excited about the 2nd or 3rd 'update' on tower and help tell the story behind it, so people can understand what's going on?

Um, I'd also like to point out that 'In Search of The Castaways' (1962) starring Maurice Chevalier and Hayley Mills had a scene, if I am not mistaken, in an ice cavern, much like the Matterhorn Bobsleds in Disneyland....and if I am not mistaken, the idea for the movie scene, had something to do with the attraction, which debuted in 1959.

it truly is sad that the HM blew, that could have made an amazing movie series.

According to imdb jungle cruise is in production with a release date of fall 2009.

What exactly will be the plot of a tomorrowland movie? And will it be as inaccurate and inconsistant as Disneyland?

Here is the most complete story I've seen on the possible Jungle Cruise movie:

                              World Famous Jungle Cruise

It says they first started considering this in 2004. It appears to have gone through two different pairs of writers. In 2006, Dick Cook says they wouldn't know until 2007 the future progress of the movie. A recent slate of future movies was just announced at a special presentation this past week. Unfortunately, there was no mention of the Jungle Cruise movie.

In some of the previous discussions, I liked the idea of a cross between Indiana Jones and Capt Jack Sparrow, BUT when Dick Cook mentioned the re-write of the JC movie would be a family traveling with the JC Guide, a lot of us had severe reservations about that particular idea, just because the family plot in the Haunted Mansion movie killed that story.

Also, Dick Cook mentioned that the story would be set in more modern times, late 20th century, that also didn't meet with a great response, as DL's Adventureland is set more in the 1930's and a more interesting time to have an adventure movie.

Sounds like too many people were messing around with stories that kept missing. Maybe it's better they hold off on the movie for a while.

I would LOVE to see Ted and Terry (who wrote Pirates) to develope their own script for a Jungle Cruise movie. Maybe they can start working on some ideas, after they finish The Lone Ranger!
