  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

According to imdb.com Pirates 2, which is being called (for now at least) Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest begins filming in March '05.

One thing that is news to me is that on imdb.com it states that they're filming Pirates 2 and Pirates 3? Can anyone confirm that? I thought I remember hearing that they were happy enough stretching it out to a sequel and would politely end it there?

I can confirm that all the stars were signed to a 2 movie deal, and they are filming parts 2 and 3 at the same time.

Let me quote from the new book, "Disney War" by James B. Stewart, page 440.

Disney moved swiftly to capitalize on its new franchise, signing Verbinski, Depp, Rush, Bloom, and the winsome Keira Knightly to two sequels, to be shot simultaneously, like the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Wait! Geoffrey Rush is gonna be in the sequels? They killed him! Hollywood bugs me when they do stuff like that.

Lets hope they just need him for some "flash-back" scene or something...

ditto that. Disney doesn't have an excellent track record with #2s. Toy Story 2 was pretty good though...

Anyone know if it is the same producer / director?

Toy Story 2 was a Pixar film (creatively) not a Disney film. Which is why some of us are upset and concerned that Disney is moving forward with Pixar sequels without the involvement of Pixar.

Gore Verbinsky is the director again, so it looks like most the folk are back (wish Geoffrey Rush wasn't coming back... would love a new villian).

Yeah- Al confirmed that in a prior update while visiting Universal Studios where it is being filmed. I can also confirm (as someone attached to Buena Vista Pictures) that the sequals have been planned for some time now, almost immediately after it was apparant that Black Pearl was a hit.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong (it's been a while since I watched the original film),
but IMDB has Stellen Skarsgard listed as Bootstraps Turner (Orlando's dad).

I thought about this whilst watching COTBP, but wasn't he tied to something and dropped in the ocean,
living his zombie-like life on the seabed until the cursed was lifted?

Curse lifted=human again=drowned Dad on ocean floor.

Let's see them get out of that one...
(And flashbacks/dream sequences don't do Stellen justice)

Well, you see, he eventually cut his way free from the cannon and walked to freedom. He'd been keeping a low profile, however, because he didn't want to be caught by Barbarossa's men again.

Yeah won't be too hard... Considering in the first film they specifically said:

                          - Bootstrap Bill is at the bottom of the sea
                          - He was put down there when already cursed
                          - The cursed pirates can walk underwater

it seems pretty easy for him to be able to just walk out of it.

I was hoping they'd cast Cary Elwes as Bootstrap Bill though, to be honest. He looks a bit like Orlando Bloom, and honestly the Dread Pirate Roberts is one of the few other pirates I could see ever properly going toe to toe with Jack Sparrow.

                            imdb.com synopsis:
Once again thrown into the world of the supernatural, Captain Jack Sparrow finds out that he owes a blood debt to the legendary Davey Jones, Captain of the ghostly Flying Dutchman. With time running out, Jack must find a way out of his debt or else be doomed to eternal damnation and servitude in the afterlife. And as if this weren't enough, the Captain's problems manage to wreck the wedding plans of a certain Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, who are forced to join Jack on yet another misadventure.
Will's dad and Barbarossa must either be used for flash-back scenes or already in servitude to Jones. Otherwise there's a serious break in the storytelling.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong (I have no doubt someone will )

I had heard Johnny Depp patterned the charactor Cpt.Jack Sparrow after Stephen Tyler
I thought they had cast him as Jacks Father, so what happened? will he be in it?
(perhaps that will be in 3)

I had heard that was a "confirmed rumor" (whatever the heck that is on the internet, taken with a grain of salt)

Actually, it was Keith Richards and the latest is that Keith will not be in the sequel.

                                  Pirates

Not only should you re-watch The Curse of the Black Pearl, but you should actually pay attention this time. Exactly how long did Bootstrap have to untie himself and walk out of the water? Years!!! I am pretty sure it is completely possible to untie a few knots when you have years to do it. If you paid attention in the first film you will see that cursed pirates can walk under water. So please quit saying that Bootstrap being in the next film is a stupid idea. :botox: As for Barbossa, maybe the monkey gave him another coin right before he died. Make sure you watch the scenes after the credits on The Curse of the Black Pearl to see what I mean.
