    'Madagascar' sequels greenlit

Is "Madagascar" the next "Shrek"? Jeffrey Katzenberg is hoping so. DreamWorks Animation has selected its most recent release as its second franchise, greenlighting theatrical and direct-to-video sequels....

    I hope not.

While the original Shrek was witty, funny and had a heart-felt story, Madagascar just kind of fell flat for me. Dispite the fact that there were Penguins in it.

I really disliked it, not unlike a number of the kids & parents that left more than half-way into it at the screening I attended! The best part was the lack of Disney-bashing so abundent in SHREK.

I liked Madagascar, but I loved Shrek.

What I liked most about Madagascar was that they used the 59th and Lex subway station and that's the one that was closest to where we stayed last year and it looked exactly right in the movie.

So....I guess that means that the rest of the movie wasn't all that memorable, if that was my favorite part.

I completely avoided seeing Madagascar. The trailers alone just really didn't excite me or make me want to see it at all. It just seemed like yet another case where the studio thought CG-animation and A-list voice talent was enough to rake in the cash (which it apparently was for some people). I'd much rather have a great story and excellent writing. I don't care what media they tell their story in or how famous the actors are.

I never saw it. It looked like just another factory-produced family film.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

              It was.
Marge: Barnacle Bill's Home Pregnancy Test? Homer, shouldn't we have gone with a better-known brand?
Homer: But Marge, this one came with a corn-cob pipe!
Marge: [reading from the test box] "Ahoy, Maties! If the water turns blue, a baby for you! If purple ye see, no baby thar be!"
Homer: So, which is it? Blue or purple?
              Marge: Pink.
              Homer: D'oh!
Marge: "If ye test should fail, to a doctor set sail!"

If they are going to do sequels, they should focus them on the Penguins. I've never seen the movie, but from almost everyone i've heard of who has seen the movie, the Penguins were the best characters.

I didn't really like Madagascar. It is nothing compared to Shrek. They are already working on a sequel due out in 2008 I think.

Have you guys seen that there is a movie with just the penguins that is being released with the new Wallace and Grommit movie. I think it must be a short. I LOVE Wallace and Grommit and those Penguins. I am so excited for both!!

I'm just glad I didn't have to pay to see it.

The kids liked it for about a week. After watching it about 10 times they haven't asked since.

Madagascar is proof that CGI alone can't make an animated film better. As they know well over at Pixar: "Its the story, stupid."

Oh, and Nick Park (Wallace and Grommitt) is absolutely brilliant. Can't wait for that one.

The penguins were pretty good, but my favorite was King Jullian.

                            King Julian was pretty funny!
Shh! We're hiding. Everyone be quiet. That includes me. Shh! Who's making that noise? Oh, it's me again.

Did anyone else find that the four main characters- played by major stars- were just not funny. Even Chris Rock wasn't funny to me. King Julian and the Penguins were the best part of the whole movie and are pretty much the only things that got me through it!

I don't think this film needs a sequel. It was sort of cute...I guess... but not sequel worthy.
