  • Martin Scorsese to direct movie about Frank Sinatra

I think Scorsese is one of VERY few directors I would trust with this.

Just being that his name is attached, I know he'll do Frank right.

Now the big question is, who's gonna play Frank??? Let the discussion begin.

Martin Scorsese to direct Frank Sinatra movie | Entertainment | Reuters

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese will direct the big screen movie about the colorful life of entertainment legend Frank Sinatra, who legions of fans called Ol' Blue Eyes, Universal Pictures said on Wednesday.

Casting has yet to be announced for the role of Sinatra, arguably the most popular singer of his era and who also struck box office gold with roles such as his Oscar-winning turn in "From Here to Eternity" in 1953.

The singer was previously portrayed on the small screen by Philip Casnoff in a 1992 television miniseries and by Ray Liotta in HBO's 1998 movie, "The Rat Pack."

I do like the idea of Scorsese doing a Frank movie, but my enthusiasm hinges on the actor playing the lead. I've read speculation on other sites that given his history of gravitating toward certain actors with whom he already has a working relationship, someone like Leo could be a top contender. I don't think I would like that scenario very much, but I'm having trouble thinking of anyone I would like to see in the role.

Yeah, Leo instantly came to mind, but I'm not sure. I heard somebody else mention James Franco, that might be okay.

It might be better to go with a relative unknown though.

I also like the idea of an unknown, but this is Hollywood and they'll want a big star to build the film around. According to one site that I follow, Scorsese does have his eye on Leo for the role while the studio has their eye on Johnny Depp. Scheduling could be an issue for both though, so it could very likely be someone else.
