Saw Serenity last night. It was great! Even if you have not seen the TV show, you should see it.

I feel a little bad, we saw it for free. Oh well, we own the series and will buy the DVD, so they aren't loosing out on our account. I think next weekend will be strong for it as well- I forsee word of mouth carrying this movie into an equally strong second or third weekend.

Universal's "Serenity" was the highest grossing picture of the new arrivals, taking in an estimated $10.1 million to place second. The sci-fi actioner, helmed by Joss Whedon and based on his television series "Firefly," carried a PG-13 rating and has a strong niche fan base. The opening was somewhat on the low side of expectations heading into the weekend, but the vast majority of reviews for "Serenity" were favorable and exit scores were positive.

Just got back from seeing what I consider a masterful movie- Serenity. Sometimes you talk about the plot of a movie and you say it felt forced or trival but this, this was a stroke of genius- so well crafted it deserves a second look while its still on the big screen!

I saw this over the weekend, and it was absolutely fantastic. Better than I had expected. One of the best sci-fi movies I've seen in a few years now, including the Star Wars prequels. Just a great romp, start to finish. And River... just wow... My new fav...

Well that just sucks - we had planned to see it again this weekend and just didn't make it. We helped the other movies: 1 to see Two for the Money and 2 to see Wallace and Gromit.

I had actually hoped word of mouth would continue to help this flick!

Well, it's still in the top 10, ahead of a movie filled with bikini-clad Jessica Alba shots. Still not too bad for a movie that is really not a general public movie. I went with three other people, two of which had never seen an entire episode of Firefly, and although they liked it, they weren't thrilled about it. A lot of it was lost on them... Oh well. I loved it! I'm hoping for a nice extended DVD edition...

I'm planning on going this week... got four episodes left of the series to watch (and a cold to get over) and then I'm set!

Guess Im' not the only one who didn't like this movie!
                          Good morning, son
                          In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
                          It was pain
                          Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

its still in limited release on about half the number of screens as some of the others on that list. Plus, look at the rest of the numbers- all of them are pretty pathetic. This was a SLOW weekend at the box office- I saw theaters with less than 10 patrons.

This film may not be number one, but I believe it will have staying power. Over the long term I imagine it will be extremely profitable.
