So who's going to see District 9? Who has seen it already? How would you rate it? (Please don't post spoilers)

I still haven't seen Harry Potter so I'll probably be seeing that one first this weekend, but my Birthday is on Monday so...

It was AMAZING!!! Lots of aliens and humans kicking the crap out of each other. But not mindless like some other movies. Totally had an amazing story, amazing effects, amazing acting, etc.

It's got a little bit of hand-held camera action at the beginning of the movie but it doesn't last the entire movie like Cloverfield.

Lets just say I would have loved this if it weren't for the ridiculous amounts of gore. A real turn off.

Well, as realistic gore as your going to get from an alien gun that disintegrates you.

I actually thought the gore was AWESOME.

I'm thinking of seeing District 9 this weekend or next weekend.
Gore doesn't bother me. If I can survive watching horror movies like Saw this will be nothing.

What's the gore like? Is it like Starship Troopers gore or Alien gore?

Not as over the top as Starship Troopers AT ALL. In fact, IMO, it was appropriate for the movie. There are a couple of "ick" moments but for the most part it's "Damn, that was awesome" moments.

Like I've been saying before in many other message boards, this is by far the best film of the Summer and one of the best Sci-Fi films to come by in a long time.

It's a very well done film that not only smart, but pulls off great action moments that put mindless popcorn flicks like G.I. Joe and Tranformers 2 to shame.

The fact that it only had a budget of 30 million dollars really puts crap like TF2 and G.I. Joe to shame when they had budgets of 170 and 200 million...yet had worse looking cgi then District 9.

As for the gore, I was perfectly fine with it. It was far more realistic and tamer then what I've seen in other films. When I mean tamer, I'm referring to quantity. There are plenty of films that use so much gore it's way over the top. Thankfully this film is not one of them.
Disney and Universal fan for life!...Shocking ain't it?
Seize the future with X-S! Not Stitch.
I'm not crazy, now if you will excuse me I have tea time with the ghosts at Haunted Mansion.

I thought this was a great movie. It's amazing how much more believable the effects were in this movie than in either GI Joe or Transformers 2. The gore wasn't out of place and just gore for the sake of gore. More disturbing potentially is the setting of District 9 itself for most of the film as it's not a pretty place.

The story was great, it actually has a story that one can follow and make sense of, which has been hard to find this summer in the big budget popcorn flicks. There's a lot of heart in the film that will bring out different emotions in you. Very well done and I highly recommend seeing this.

Friday Estimates for District 9 were about $14 million (which is 1/2 of it's total budget almots).

Daily Box Office for Friday, August 14, 2009

With strong word of mouth, I'm guessing it had a great Saturday and will have a great Sunday.

                          Spoiler
Let me start off by saying I HAVE NOT seen this yet. I want to, but finances, you know.

Mom and Robert went last night and I asked them what they thought. They said it was stupid! *pause for shock* I know! They said it was boring, and not enough happened. According to them, GI Joe was better...*again, pause* I know!

I defended it best I could but they would have nothing of it. I guess the whole group that saw it thought it sucked. mom put it this way, "too much cussing, not enough boom". I told them to go watch a Michael Bay movie if they want boom. You want an actual story, look at PJ.

So what I am gettin at is, is this just an intellectual style film more than an summer movie or what?

^ No, it's an "intellectual summer movie". Boring it wasn't.
