Song of the South

Does anyone know where I can get a working copy of Song of the South? I've seen it on ebay, amazon, etc...but it says something about formatting?? I may have that wrong, but since it's imported, it might not work? My kids have been asking about Splash, and the whole storyline...would just love to see it with them. Thanks for any help!

I believe it was released in other areas of the world so the copies out there will only work under PAL based players. America uses the NTSC format so those copies found on ebay or amazon will not work unless you have a PAL video player and a PAL television set

"Song of the South" has never been released for home video in the U.S. in any format. The only thing you can find is either a foreign copy which will not play on standard U.S. equipment or a bootleg copy.

U.S. videos are in the NTSC format to be viewed on NTSC televisions while most foreign videos are in PAL and require a PAL television. Also, DVDs are restricted to zones and North American zone 1 DVD players will not play DVDs from other zones.

Converting copyrighted videos is illegal and buying all the equipment to view foreign video can be expensive, especially for just one movie.

I believe the above information is true. However, if you want to see the movie, the animated portions at least can be found on YouTube.

The whole film can be found online, but I don't think the powers that be want us to point people to illegally copied material.

If i recall correctly the whole movie can be found on Myspace in the video area. it was in like 4 parts and it was wonderful! Its actually one of my favorite Disney movies of all time. It's a shame it hasnt been released. (Gone with the Wind was much worse when it came to racial issues so idk what the big deal is)

I was fortunate to find a blank VHS tape for less than $1 at a thrift store and it said SOTS. Taking my chances I took a risk and lo and behold, the ENTIRE movie was there. Obviously, someone must have copied it from a laserdisc as it had Japanese subtitles but I didn't care as this was the only chance ever to see the film. Before, I listened to the songs and storyteller album with the late Dal McKennon doing Uncle Remus (which I still have on vinyl record).

Hopefully we can see the film restored/released on DVD this century but that is unlikely to be.

The Complete Tales of Uncle Remus book can be found at lots of places like Amazon and Barnes and Noble. It is a great story book and you can read one tale at a time.

I think since the movie is not something that can be bought for US region DVD players, the book is a much better option.

If the drawings are too old fashioned, all the kids have to do is close their eyes and use their imaginations and their memories of the ride to picture the characters.

It used to be easy to get a DVD copy of the Movie (sure it was not legal) but now Ebay is cracking down on those types of transactions. Your Best bet is You Tube or Limewire.

Google it there are lots of places to get it, I may be naive but I find it hard to believe that they are all illegitamate copies. It would be pretty easy to shut these sites down if the aren't legal?

I live in a country with PAL system, and when I was in the USA we bought a portable DVD player and tons of movies. When I came home I thought that I would only be able to watch those movies using the portable we bought over there, but to my surprise, most wok on my own DVD player and TV. I think there are like 3 that don't play. You can also get multi region DVD players quite cheap
