  • Henry Selick leaves Laika

'Coraline' and 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' director Henry Selick has left his homebase at Portland's Laika Studios.

Hopefully he's received a call from Burbank already today.

If Selick won't be the director for Laika's next feature, who will be?

Does this give Lou Romano a shot at the director's chair?

One of my favorite artists. Romano is so excessively talented he'd be a natural choice there now, all stop-motion or no. His contributions to Pixar's 'Up', 'Ratatouille' (as the voice of Linguini), 'The Incredibles' and 'Monsters Inc.' alone put him miles ahead of virtually anyone out there, not to mention his contributions to projects ranging from 'The Iron Giant' and 'The Powerpuff Girls'.

His work in his latest group show for the second book in a series, 'The Ancient Book of Sex and Science', was just stunning and inspiring:

BTW - Some of his work will be included in the Beyond Eden exhibition at Barnsdall Park this weekend:

Ditto. Here's hoping Henry's departure opens new doors for Lou.
