Group protests turkeys at Disneyland - Around Disney : The Orange County Register

But one animal-rights group contends that the nationally pardoned turkeys are anything but that at Disneyland.
Farm Sanctuary, a farm-animal-protection group, sent Monday a petition to the White House, asking President Barack Obama to send the National Thanksgiving Turkeys to a shelter instead of Disneyland.

But Farm Sanctuary believes the turkeys would have better lives at a shelter that the group runs.

Yes, because they will be SO mistreated at Disneyland. The fact that past pardoned Turkey's have lived long lives at Disneyland should be enough.

I love the DL pardoned turkeys. They get wonderful care at DL by the animal keepers.

But what you guy don't know is, as soon as the holiday season is over, the turkeys end-up at the Turkey Leg stands.

I was kind of wondering why the turkey pen is vacant by the following Thanksgiving... Do they die of natural causes within a year of being pardoned? So I took a look at the link:

Normally, turkeys raised for eating only live about 18 weeks. At Disneyland, most pardoned turkeys have lived for more than a year, said Suzi Brown, a Disneyland spokeswoman.
Anyways, the turkey is lucky it wasn't eaten this Thanksgiving, so I am not going to give Disney a hard time.

How about this. We get that turkey. Chop it's head off and serve it with mashed potatoes, yams and punkin pie!

Don't these people have anything better to do? Like maybe protect a turkey that's actually gonna get straight-up slaughtered for a meal? They should just go to the Butterball headquarters & save two OTHER turkeys.

Yes, they do. Like complain about turkey bowling.

I love when they serve them up in early January with that special cranberry sauce. Those pardoned turkeys always taste the best! Hmmm hmm hmm!

Re: Group Protests pardoned Turkey's going to Disneyland

So, the whole real reason for this is they're upset that Disneyland gets the publicity for the stunt (which is all it really is. Seriously, pardoned turkeys?) instead of their shelter.

Next year, it will be a dog shelter who can claim "not once in the history of our shelter has a turkey died here." And yeah, they're right too. Since they never had a live turkey there in the first place.

Frankly, the turkeys at Disneyland are well taken care of, even if they're not always on display. They have, what, two turkeys to lavish attention on? Even if the lifespan is shorter, it's a higher quality of life than being, once again, one of who knows how many this shelter has.

There, they're just one of the group.
At Disneyland, they're prized and celebrities.

Sure, you could argue that the birds don't really care about such things. Then again, you can also say they're most likely not lamenting the fact that their life is tragically cut short by being shipped to Disneyland instead of that wonderful Turkey Sanctuary...
