With Princess and the frog opening on december 11th, I thought I pose the question How much money do you think it will gross opening weekend. Princess and the frog has alot riding on it , with it being the first 2d animation film in years for disney. My guess is the 40-59 million range 55 million to be exact.. Im curios to read what others think...

re: How much will Princess and the Frog make Opening weekend?
As it is only playing on two screens in the entire country at this time it has a far smaller haul than most of the figures listed in your poll above:
$1.1 million for the five day holiday weekend.
So off to a good start. Their cumulative box office total should sit between about $48 - 59 million by afternoon on 12/13.Last edited by ALIASd; 11-29-2009, 11:17 PM."If you don't know how to draw, you don't belong in this building" - John Lasseter 2006

Regardless I do agree that when it opens nationwide it will be somewhere in the $48 - 59 million range.

The real question will be who is the competition that weekend... I haven't looked.
My guess is it will do similar to UP!
But man I can't recall the last time Disney whored a product out so much prior to it's release. From the parks, to Disney On Ice, to D23, to special screenings...Check out my blog - Coreplex: Rambling from inside the Grid

I can see Frog being #1 at the box office it's opening week.
Possibly gaining second spot after Avatar premieres. And will probably stay that way for the remainder of its theatrical run.
And as flynnibus said, it will probably have the financial venue of Up,if not higher!Don't think of a gun as a weapon.
Think of it as a third arm that magically
shoots bullets!

Did you hear about the Morgans
Invictus
The lovely Bones
A single man
Originally they had princess and the frog scheduled to open on christmas but the chipmunks sequel scared them off.
Disney kind of has to whore the product out to the max especially since film has been down so much this year and the future of 2d animation and the walt disney animation side of the house might depend on it.
Im also encouraged Fantastic mr fox got rave reviews but tanked at the Box office, It leads a clear path for Princess and the frog to remain strong all the way through the holidays... It will be pretty easy for princess to stay in second with princess and the frog christmas weekend however you have sherlock holmes and Alvin and the chipmunks to deal with.

Hmmm, I thought Enchanted would have done better than it did. Not a 2D cartoon, but it makes me a bit pessimistic.
I'll guess closer to $40 million opening, and I'm not even confident in that.
But, it is a return to classic Disney animation, and the first black princess could draw crowds. I'm hoping it does well, but we'll see.My Micechat cruise trip report, Part 1:http://micechat.com/14795-disney-wonder/

'The Princess and the Frog' is scheduled to open on 3,000+ screens 12/11.
All of the others (except the Hugh Grant/SJP movie which opens wide) are opening that day in either limited (a few cities) release or in 'The Lovely Bones' case, an exclusive L.A./NY engagement, typically two screens. They're all opening again except for HG/SJP's movie for Oscar-qualifying runs.
Big Easy money. Great placement by WDP Distribution."If you don't know how to draw, you don't belong in this building" - John Lasseter 2006
