This looks like an awesome event. I'll have to talk to the wife about it. Could be fun.

Re: Oscar-nominated Animated Feature Symposium 3/4/10

I'm so happy to see two of my favorite films of the year get nominated.

            The Princess and the Frog
co-directors John Musker and Ron Clements commented today on the Oscar nominations:

John says he's excited to be nominated in the same category as Up and says Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios' Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter can be a "proud father of both of these films. I hope he's going to take one of his Hawaiian shirts to the Academy Awards and have it be half balloons and half frogs."

For Princess co-director Ron Clements, there is additional joy today knowing the film is nominated in the Best Animated Film category with Up, among others. "We know [Up director] Pete Docter and [Up co-director] Bob Peterson real well and those are great guys, really talented guys, and we're really happy for them as well."

I attend the similar event each year for nominated films in the edited feature category. This event also looks like it would be good, and something I would enjoy.

Come sit down front this time! Let me know if we can coordinate seats & get better photos.

This was a great first time event last year & should be even better this year.

Huge congrats to John & Ron (their last time at the Oscars was for 'Treasure Planet' at the 75th annual ceremony, also hosted by Steve Martin) & everyone at WDAS!

Re: Oscar-nominated Animated Feature Symposium 3/4/10

The second-ever Animated Feature symposium at the AMPAS in Beverly Hills was just wonderful fun. The priceless stories, thoughts and advice from John Musker, Ron Clements, Pete Docter, Henry Selick and first-time filmmaker & nominee Tomm Moore for only $5 was unbelievable. Unfortunately Wes Anderson was not in town and unable to participate. But we did get 3D film clips this year so it helped balance things out.

Selick is terrific to observe, very thoughtful and intelligent. His two remarks of the evening name-checking Tim Burton were an unusual study of below-the-surface dismissal and impatience.

John Musker, who is beyond a treat to listen and talk to, out did himself again with hilarious tales of behind-the-scenes animation "glamour" and faux pas made by his good sport partner Ron Clements.

The evening's program, signed by Henry Selick

It was a great event! I suppose I should scan in my autographs as well huh? Thanks for saving me a seat!

Too bad Wes Anderson couldn't make it and I was absolutely floored by what I saw of THE SECRET OF THE KELLS. Can't wait to see it in full.

My pleasure, giggling with you at Tom Sito's sleepy-time lapses was a treat.

Or save the scans until the next great AMPAS event with now Oscar winner Michael Giacchino in May!
