What is THE ultimate Walt Disney Classic?

Forgive me for using the term Walt Disney Classic to describe Disney's animated classics that were made after Walt Disney died, but they are all marketed as Walt Disney Classics, and it sounds a bit classier than Disney Classics, don't ya think?

So anyway, in a few seconds you will scroll down, I would like you to vote for your favourite WDC. You may have done this before, but this film you are about to choose will be chosen because it is the one that warms your heart, the one you would watch when you have the flu, the one with the characters you rush to have your photo taken with at Disneyland. This is the one that you have ruined your video copy of it through watching it so many times, and the one that is so significant in your life above the rest. The one that makes you smile more than any other Walt Disney Classic. I would like to get as many MiceChatters as possible to do this, so spread the word, all you have to do is post a reply with the name of the film.

        Honestly? Using your description?

        Mulan.

Interesting--it appears too postmodern, but hey, we're all open minded, right?

                I actually have a few:
                1) Pinocchio
                2) Peter Pan
                3) Robin Hood
                4) The Little Mermaid
                5) The Lion King

THis may sound weird coming from a Disney fan, but, does anyone have a complete list of all Dinsey animated movies? I've lost track of what's out there.

Please Disney, go back to hand-drawn animated movies!

Pixar-Disney films aren't in the WDC line. But then again, neither are the direct-to-video films. Most of them are Walt Disney Home Entertainment.

They must have heard you because they are there now. On the right hand column.

I don't know why, I always thought that Rescuers: Down Under was released before The Little Mermaid. It certainly is the forgotten movie released between Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast.

As for Disney movies I watch when I'm sick, or one that I can watch any time ... I honestly can't say I have one.

Usually when I'm sick in bed I will watch Indiana Jones, Star Wars or now Lord of the Rings.

As much as I love so many of them, I think the most impressive is "Fantasia." I first saw it in a reissue in the mid-fifties in stereophonic sound which was my first introduction to that.

Here's a quote from Walt himself that was printed shortly before the premiere:

"No doubt, some unimaginative critics will predict that in Fantasia, the animated medium and my artists have reached their ultimate. The Truth is to the contrary. Fantasia merely makes our other pictures look immature, and suggests for the first time what the future of the medium may well turn out to be."

Of course, the audiences of the time felt differently.
"America is the only country that went from barbarism to decadence without civilization in between." Oscar Wilde

May I second this list? I love love these movies. Robin Hood is one of the most underrated Disney films followed by Sword in the Stone.

I would rate Snow White high on the list because
it encompasses so many 1st's. Walt achieved
near perfection with combining story, music, artwork,
and marketing with the very 1st animated feature film.

Fantasia would rank high on the list as well. It was
Walt attempting something completely new and different
and very much ahead of its time. Too bad, the public
wasn't as accepting at it's 1st release. I would have
love to see what Walt would have created, had
fantasia succeeded at 1st. No one know what brilliance
                                  the world could have known.

Those would be my top 2 picks, but personally, I
prefer to wear out Jungle Book with the wonderful
jazzy music, and the fun loving Baloo and the
Crazy King Louie! Next up on my list is 101 Dalmatians!

                                  For the more recent flicks:

Aladdin ~ Loved the music, couldn't get enough of this movie when it 1st came out, I have pretty much all the toys during it's initial release.
Nemo ~ Brilliant Colors, effects, story!
Emperors New Groove ~ great comedy moments, Bucky, Yzma, Kronk steal the show
Little Mermaid ~ fun carribean music, great story/great villain
Hercules ~ Hades is one of my all time favorite villains
Lion King ~ One of Disney's BEST.
Tarzan ~ Amazing Disney Take on a non disney classic. (with the exception of Rosies ape, blech)
Critter Country's a mess ev'r since the Country Bears were kicked out. Ya can't cover pooh with honey and 'spect people ta like it.

Sleeping Beauty is really IT as far legendary status goes. I didn't like it as a kid when I was just interested in the colors, but years later the personality of the characters, good and bad, are just so brilliant. The characters may not feel as real as they do today and the score is outshined by Cinderella and Pinocchio, but the storytelling is the strongest part. You'd think a story as simple as it is would have a fairly brief script, but they managed to stretch it out to film length wonderfully.
