  • Star Wars set to debut on Blu Ray in 2011

Blu-ray.com - Star Wars Blu-ray Set in the Works

During a panel at the C2E2 comic convention in Chicago, Steve Sansweet, Lucasfilm's Director of Content Management and Head of Fan Relations, stated that the company has been working on a Star WarsThe Digital Bits, quoting industry sources, says that Lucasfilm "tentatively plans the official Blu-ray release to happen in October 2011." Obviously, with the Alien Anthology coming later this year, a 2010 release of Star Wars can be safely ruled out, and considering that A New Hope opened theatrically in May 1977, late 2011 would be a natural choice for a 35th Anniversary Edition Anthology.
Not sure how I feel about the "Stuff" they keep finding. Knowing Lucas he will want to put them in the movies and not just as extras. George, just give us the extras.

And PLEASE give us both the original and special editions in High Def!!!

Awesome, but a set of all 6 on blu-ray...I hate to find out how much that will set me back!

For really hot, must-own titles, I pick them up the week, if not that day, they're released. That's usually when the price is the best if I can't wait two years for the price to go down. And to be sure, this title will be ripe for retailer-exclusive versions at Best Buy, Target and Amazon, offering some unique bonus item with purchase at their store. You'll have to take that into account too. It's all part of the game these days!

I'm really excited it is. As funny as I find the picture you posted Barbosa (and true that it is), I don't consider him milking the series from the fans this time. I don't know anyone who doesn't want a great HD version of Star Wars, and were getting just what we wanted. Its not like The Clone Wars movie that went to theaters, that was really milking it. This is something fans have actually been wanting, at least it seems.

          Thanks for everything, Walt! :gladsad:

I can't wait! Yay! To see Han Solo in HD is so worth it.

Rumor has it, SW will be released in 3D soon as well. I've also heard talks of George wanting to do a REMAKE/REBOOT of the series. Ridiculous.

Saw ESB tonight on the big screen. It was digital and looked beautiful. I only wish we could make our own Special Edition edit. I'm more or less okay with the Empire special edition but the line that irks me the most is when vader is supposed to say "BRING MY SHUTTLE". He said it with such anger... and now it's "ladee laa alert the star destroyer to prepare for my arrival."
