  • The real truth behind how Ridley Scott's "Robin Hood" got made

Several years ago, three script writers were sitting in a Hollywood bar, drinking beer. One says, "I want to write a cool movie, and have Russell Crowe star in it, but he's English or something, so the movie has to be about England."

So the next writer says, "Well, who are the greatest action heroes Britain has ever had?'

So they do some Googling, and check a few Wikipedia pages, and come up with a list of the greatest action heroes Britain has ever had:
    • King Arthur
    • Robin Hood
    • William Wallace
    • Rob Roy
    • Lord Horatio Nelson
    • Sir Winston Churchill

Then the first writer says, "that's a great list, but how can we combine all those guys into one two-hour movie?"

So they all think for a while, and finally the third writer says, "I know, I know. We take Robin Hood, see, and then we take all the cool, awesome things those other guys did, and we make Robin Hood do it. And, wait, and, you know that awesome beach landing scene in Saving Private Ryan? We make Robin Hood do that too."

The other two writers agreed that this was the greatest idea in the history of history. So they wrote a script where Robin Hood does all the cool, awesome things those other guys did, and then they sold it to Universal Pictures.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

Sounds good to me! Can't wait to see it
          Good morning, son
          In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
          It was pain
          Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...
