Screenwriter Mike White will direct his first feature, Year of the Dog, for Paramount Classics, says Variety. Jack Black, White's producing partner, is expected to be involved.

White (School of Rock, The Good Girl) will write the comedy-drama, about a happy-go-lucky secretary whose life changes in unexpected ways after her dog dies.

At Sundance, it was also announced that Paramount Classics -- rather than Paramount proper -- will release Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's Babel, starring Brad Pitt.

Mike White is certainly an oddball, but I feel that he has a pulse on various eccentricies that most mainstream films don't cover, or when they do, they get them completely wrong.
