  • Stargate

I've noticed over the last few days that we seem to have a fair number of Stargate fans here on the boards... so instead of taking over those other threads, I thought I'd start one here!

I'm a fan of both SG-1 and Atlantis. Been watching SG-1 since it moved to SciFi, and of course have gone back and seen all the older episodes. I'm a big Sam/Jack fan, to be sure.

Atlantis I've watched since the beginning. I wasn't into it as much when it first started, but it's really grown on me over the course of the first season. Dr. McKay is my hero! I loved him on SG-1, and I love him on Atlantis. His attitude and sense of humor crack me up! And Major Sheppard is just plain adorable.

So, what about either show (or the movie) has really drawn you into the series?

I'm into special effects (still learning), and that's what I like about both the movie and SG-1. I still watch SG-1 on SciFi every now and then, and I'm still waiting for Richard Dean Anderson to open the gate with a hockey ticket or chewing gum (MacGyver reference).

I am not really into sci-fi channels; the closest I've gotten was Roswell and a few episodes of Farscape. And I admittedly rolled my eyes when I'd go to my boyfriend's house and he'd be watching Stargate.

But I really like this show! My favorite characters are Teal'c, Daniel Jackson, and Corin Nemic's character (whose name always escapes me), even though he's no longer on the show. Unfortunately I don't get the Sci-Fi Channel so I never get to see the new episodes. I guess I liked the way the stories were being told, and somehow it sucked me in.

Corin played Jonas Quinn, and I loved his character, too. He was like a daniel jackson on steroids... Tougher, more willing to fight, not so whiney, but every bit as smart. I like Daniel, but I miss Jonas. And don't get me started on Osiris... Anna-Louise Plowman can take over my world any time, and I'll not resist!

Oh, and speaking of Farscape (a show I LOVE!!!), Ben browder joins SG1 next season! Some say as the new leader of the team... They've had Claudia Black on the show already. I wonder if Anthony Simcoe wil be next?

          Farscape RULES!!!

Ben Browder is darn sexy in those black leather pants
Marge: Barnacle Bill's Home Pregnancy Test? Homer, shouldn't we have gone with a better-known brand?
Homer: But Marge, this one came with a corn-cob pipe!
Marge: [reading from the test box] "Ahoy, Maties! If the water turns blue, a baby for you! If purple ye see, no baby thar be!"
Homer: So, which is it? Blue or purple?
          Marge: Pink.
          Homer: D'oh!
Marge: "If ye test should fail, to a doctor set sail!"

I've been watching SG-1 since its premiere on Showtime back in '97. I remember being a little against the idea of a tv show since I like the movie and didn't like the idea f someone else taking Kurt Russel's role. Needless to say, the show's grown on me. I also love Atlantis, and have a huge Atlantis standee that stood in my local theater's lobby last summer displayed prominently in the bedroom of my college apartment!

...That last part may have been a bit too much info....

I'm a big Farscape fan, too! I'm so psyched for seeing Ben Browder on SG-1. I was at the official Farscape con in Burbank last November, and throughout Ben and Claudia's panel, they were constantly making digs at Michael Shanks (thanks to the first question on the panel, asking Claudia whether Ben or Michael was the better kisser)... needless to say, I just about died laughing when they announced a few weeks later that Ben would be on SG-1. Claudia was HILARIOUS as Vala - and she'll be back for the first five episodes next season. Ben and Claudia on the same show again... as different characters!

If it makes you feel better, I have a photo of the Atlantis cast in my locker at work.

I wish! If I had a seven-foot-tall cut-out of Sheppard... or McKay... or Beckett... well, I certainly wouldn't get any work done!

Eh, I was always hoping they would put some sort of Stargate attraction in at Disney/MGM in florida, but with the MGM agreement ending.

I can't wait for the new season of Atlantis, stupid cliffhangers.

I would have to say though, that even though many people like McKay, I can't stand him. He just gets to me, like Peggy Hill on King of the Hill, ugh.

I am so with you on that one... I hated him on SG1, and nothing has changed. Even on the behind the scenes specials he grated on my nerves... Oh well...

And as for Claudia coming back, she could be in every episode as far as I'm concerned. She has such a presence, she could carry the season on her own. I am psyched about Ben's upcoming roll. He was so good in Farscape, and I suppose this is the next best thing to putting Farscape back on the air... I'd actually like to see him take command of SG-1, add some tension to the show, especially now that Jack and Sam seem to be getting all cozy... He is supposed to be a Major...

Amen amen amen!!!! Wow, if there was ever a snakehead that I wouldn't mind gettin' cozy with.... She could definitely make my eyes glow.

My fiancee and I are both really into both SGs. We just wrapped up the entire DVD collection (thank you Netflix!) and never miss Atlantis. I think it's going really well, and the Wraith are soooo creepy and evil! Shepherd is definitely a good "Jack" for Atlantis, and I really enjoy his sense of humor. The only complaint I have is how "everyday" the Ancients and their technology have become. It's like, "Oh, that's just Ancient. No big deal, it's easy."

Oh, and as for SG1, Teal'c needs to lose the hair. Really, really needs to lose the hair. I just can't take him seriously at all anymore.
And bring back Hammond of Texas!

I think one of the reasons I like McKay so much is he kind of breaks that stereotypical scientist role. He's a geek, to be sure, but there's something about his over-inflated ego that makes him seem more fallible and human. And while he talks big about being such a genius (and such a wimp), he's shown that deep down inside, he really does have a good (and sometimes selfless) heart - standing in front of a gun for Dr. Weir, wanting to run out to help Sheppard fight a Wraith, staying behind to try to save people when the city floods, walking into that evil energy cloud to get it to go through the gate... Plus, I love his sarcastic sense of humor: "You're right! If only we had a magical tool that could slow down time. I foolishly left mine on Earth. Did you bring yours?"

The scene in one of the first few eps where Sheppard threw McKay off a balcony to test the Ancient device... funniest scene of the series so far!

i didn't start watching stargate sg-1 until last summer when a friend of mine got season 1 on dvd... i forgot about it for a few months, but then i started wanting to see more episodes... so i ended up buying seasons 1-6, and then 7 came out on dvd right as i had gotten to the end of 6... so i have seen 1-7 in order, but i have yet so see a new episode as i don't watch tv too often... i suppose i just have to wait for more dvds to come out... but then again i like following the story in order so it may be better this way... and i have yet to see atlantis...

i love all the little ongoing jokes in the show

Last night's episodes both got thumbs-up from me! Especially SG-1 - I was rolling on the floor! I won't "speculate" on the second parts, since I've seen them already, but I'm certainly looking forward to seeing them again...

England, for some reason, got the second half of this season sooner than we did. They didn't have to wait as many months between our gap of September to January. As a result, all of this season's episodes have already aired there. And, of course, they've been put online for all to download. (Not me, though, I'm waiting!)

                                      My 2 cents on Stargate-

The appeal of Stargate versus a lot of the horriable sci-fi stuff that gets out there, is actually the simplicity of the show. You have an ancient device which in theory bends space and creates wormholes- no real explanation how its done, it just does. So you throw great characters in with a great group of villians and you have an amazing show that does not take itself seriously. Brilliant.
