  • Could Australia be getting a Disneyland?

From today's Sydney Morning Herald, article titled "Mickey Mouse lets cat out of the bag"...

Western Sydney could house a new outpost of the Disney empire, with an amusement park and resort modelled on those overseas.

Disney said it was looking at international sites for a theme park, including 30 hectares at Prospect, near Blacktown.

"We are evaluating different markets around the world as part of our growth strategy," a spokeswoman for the US company said.

As much as this would be a dream come true. I have real doubts on the reality of Sydney getting a Disneyland. To be honset i don't think we have the population to support a Disneyland .... not to mention relying on AP's which we just don't have the numbers for and i don't know if the Aussies that work there can get over being cynical bastards and get swept away in the Disney spirit. Without that CM magic its a little lame.

On the upside it is an excellent location, would provide a huge amount of jobs for the sydney community and wow a Disneyland in my own back yard ..... we'll see what happens.

Aus has 20 million people in 2.9 million square miles? 7 people per square mile.

CA has 35 million people in 156,000 sq miles. 224 people per square mile.

All of U.S.A has 290 million people in 3.5 million square miles. 83 people per square mile.

I just don't see how Australia can support a magic Kingdom park.

Even if half of Sydney became AP's there is still no hope .... no matter how good Australia's tourist industry is ... it is not good enough to support a theme park on the grand scale of Disneyland.

30 hectares equals about 75 acres....Original Disneyland including Parking lot had 160 acres.....going to be a pretty small resort.

Size of actual Disneyland isn't an issue .... Australia is huge but we just don't have the population for it, even a small Disneyland requires much more then Sydney or Australia can support, which is why the other theme park that once stood there closed due to a lack of attendees.
