  • Will Senator George Mitchell leave Disney in 2006?

So I was wondering, is George Mitchell still going to be forced out of Disney in 2006 because of his age, 72? If so this will be a great thing for Disney. I feel that it will be relinquishing all the negative chains of the past that held the company down and will allow Disney to expand at a more positive rate. I bet Steve Jobs would take over as Disney Chairman when Mitchell is forced out. Then with the team of Iger/Jobs, just imagine all the endless possibilities of magic Disney will have.

while that would make a great idea. I don't think jobs can handle running another major corporation and he doesn't seem ready to let the helm go at apple anytime soon. yes mitchel should go but only if they have someone to take his place. one less thing for iger to have to concentrate on.

I hope Iger gets a replacement quick cause Mitchell is just another thorn in the rose bush. Anyway, once Mitchell is gone, I think Disney would be freed of all its negative chains....Atleast I hope so.

D'oh! Why does he even run since he does not care about what comes out of Disney and Many people seem to hate him??? He needs to stick to being a senator.

just to clarify... you feel he is unfit to serve on the Disney board, but, ok to legislate for the United States Senate?

            (he hasn't been a Senator since 1995)

Disney has decided to keep George Mitchell on the board another year in order to not have to worry about finding someone else. This way, they can deal with more important things first & worry about getting a new chairman later (and I believe they also are going to need a new president eventually.

Also, Steve Jobs has said that he does not want Mitchell's job.

I was going to say more harsher things about his senatoring skills, but if I did that, the thread would have been closed. So I just left the sentence about him being senator the way it was. But he probably would su.. Well, I better not let my nerves get the best of me.

But no I rather him not be a senator or chairman actually.

Hope so. The sooner he leaves the better. He's ( and most of the board) just about all that's left that raks of the stench of Eisner.

Just to be clear, everyone knows he's a former Senator, right? He served as a Democratic Senator from Maine from 1983-1995, with a stint as Senate Majority Leader from 1989-1995.

What does he do on the side from Disney? I have seen him on many political debate shows lately.

He's a partner at Piper Rudnick, a huge law firm, and I believe serves on a number of other boards and foundations, etc. He's a frequent talking head on foreign policy and Senate politics, etc., so that's probably why you've seen him recently on the political shows.
