  • Are Disney products made cheaper than most?

This is the third time in just over a year I've had Disney product issues (and I'm not counting the zipper pull and whiskers coming off my Cuties bag, though it IS starting to crack).

First was the Mickey Mouse Club backpack. I loved that thing and used it daily. Right after the zipper pulled out of its stitches, the hook park of the zipper broke off. I've never seen that happen before! I had it maybe 7 months.

In early Dec., I bought a zipper sweatshirt at an Outlet store. I wear it a lot as well, about 4 times a week or so. I never use the hood... Last night I noticed that the hood is becoming unstiched, where it meets the top of the jacket.

but what REALLY got me is a sweatshirt I bough Jan. 15th (that's only 1 month!) I've worn it no more than 5 times, and only for a few hours before bed and to bed. (Other than the night I bought it). Last night I noticed it has a hole in the cuff, where it meets the sleeve. After only a few uses.

For the price this stuff costs, I find this a little ridiculous! It's all stitching issues, from what I can tell.

I have jeans I wear weekly that aren't worn out after 5 years. The long sleeved tees I wear weekly, that I've had for a good 8 years are still stitched together! Even my old favorite bag from Vegas that I used daily lasted for 4 years!

    What gives?

I knew you'd feel the same things...

IDK...all my Disney stuff seems to be sewed well and has not worn out....but it is made by children in third world countries...so i guess they are allowed some bad days...LOL...is china a third world country?? maybe not, but I thik they do have sweat shops...anyway, i guess I've had goos luck. My stuff seems to last a long time.

I've had quality problems with some of the stuff from Disney, but not a whole lot, the clothing seems to last forever, except maybe one item that I can think of. Now with Pins, another story, don't know how many times I've glued that stem thing back on Pins and that includes VERY expensive ones. The Aristocat tote bag I bought from DisneyDirect broke almost immediatly (but I had stressed out the snap), so I bought a second one right away. No guantees anymore for anything!
Mom, remember, it's not what a person is like on the outside that counts,
it's what they are like in their HEART!

I think the quality has gone down hill over the last 5 years or so. I've noticed a difference in shirts I bought back in the mid 90s compared to the shirts I buy today. The ones from the mid 90s held up better.

Just remember without a well written Disney Villain, there would be no point in the Heroes and the Princesses. Have you hugged a Disney Villain today?

Yep, not much stitching of Disney stuff (or much of anything else) being done in the good old USA anymore...we live in a world of "outsourcing" everything from t-shirts to "800 help center" calls...

A song just popped into my head...

Look for the union label, when you are buying a coat, dress or blouse...
          (ending)
So always look for, the union label...it says we're able...to MAKE IT IN THE USA!!!

(Sorry, another 70's flashback, and I know this isn't the union thread...)
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Well, very few things seem to be made in the USA anymore.

I will say I have a MMC sweatshirt that I also wear frequently (it is COLD where I work!) and it has no holes or anything outside of normal wear and tear.

It just seems like, for $40+ bucks, a shirt should last more than a few months. But since i'm new to the Disney thing I was wondering if it was my luck or a general Disney thing

Re: Are Disney products made cheaper than most?

I too have been lucky, the clothes I have bought at DLR has lasted me a good while. I seem to have more trouble in the other stuff. I bought one of those charm bracelets that have the vintage 50th. The castle charm fell off very soon after I got the bracelet. I don't wear it too often. Also, the keychains I have bought have broken as well. I got one gold-looking one for the 50th and it broke when it fell before I even had the chance to put it with my keys. Other than that, sweatshirts, t-shirts, wallets, purses, sunglass holders, and even those plastic thermos they sell with hot chocolate (that lasted me about a year before it started to drip a lot).

I'm sorry you've had such bad luck NeverNever...

Oh yeah the MMC wallet seems to be holding up well
