  • LaBeouf and the Transformers

News that there is actually some progress on the live action Transformers film. Shia LaBeouf is apparently the frontrunner to play the human lead. This link also has a breakdown of the other roles to be cast:

If they cast him, and are smart enough to get most of the original voice actors, i will be extremely pleased and excited for this film.

Yep, Shia has supposedly been approached but no word on whether he has taken the role or not. From one of the Producers, Don Murphy, the names on that list aren't exactly the names that will be in the film.

I actually submitted my headshots for the role of Glen... would've preferred the role Shia is up for, but he does kind of fit the role description better, so I hope he takes it.

I am still on the fence about the original VA's though. I don't think it's an absolute necessity, but it would be cool.

Well, it would be a little tough to get Chris Latta...

Shia LaBeouf is in final negotiations to star in "Transformers," the DreamWorks/Paramount Pictures live-action adaptation of the 1980s Hasbro toy line of giant robots that morph into cars, trucks, planes, ships and other technological creations.

Michael Bay is directing the movie, which is being produced by Angry Films' Don Murphy, Tom DeSanto and Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Steven Spielberg is executive producing.

In Transformers lore, the robots are divided into two groups: the Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, who believe in tolerance and the sanctity of life; and the Decepticons, led by Megatron, who espouse survival of the fittest and the extermination of biological life.

LaBeouf will play Spike Witwicky, an 18-year-old on the lookout for his first car. When he buys one, he discovers it is actually an elite sentinel for the Autobots.

The original script is by John Rogers, while Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci penned the most recent draft.

Hasbro's Brian Goldner also is exec producing.

The movie, which has a July 4, 2007, release date, is set to start shooting in Los Angeles in May.

Adam Goodman is overseeing for DreamWorks.

LaBeouf will now have the distinction of starring in the first two DreamWorks movies to go before cameras since Paramount acquired the studio -- he also is starring in DreamWorks' "Disturbia," which starts shooting Friday. He most recently starred in "The Greatest Game Ever Played" and will next appear in "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints," followed by Emilio Estevez's "Bobby."

LaBeouf is repped by Endeavor and the Beverly Hecht Agency, John Crosby Management and attorney Matthew Saver.

My younger two daughters have discovered the joy of Transformers with the new Star Wars ones. We'll be lining up to see a *good* Transformers movie.

I can't believe I just wrote the words "good Transformers movie." :lmao:

But seriously, Transformers are huge in our household right now.

I've been rather excited by this since I heard about it (I have a decepticons steering wheel cover in my car, after all).

But will Eric Idle be voicing one of them? And will Dare to Be Stupid be played during a battle for no apparent reason?

Well if they liked those, imagine how they would feel if you got them some really good transformers then? Like from the Cybertron series...

The only good Star Wars TFs are Vader and Maul... maybe Boba... the others are things I can't say on this board. )

Why? The first movie was good in it's own right too... I'm not saying it's great, but it's good.

The official movie site has launched:

                      http://www.transformersmovie.com/

There isn't very much content yet, but it does look pretty cool. The main attraction at the moment is a countdown clock, supposedly leading up to the first teaser trailer.

For anyone interested, the official Teaser Trailer for the movie has been released, ahead of schedule, on the official movie site (see post above for link)

                        I like it

But I guess that kind of goes without saying... heheh.

It's also rumored to be attached to the new Pirates movie starting July 7th.

                          Re: LaBeouf and the Transformers

Geeks of the world rejoice! The producer of the film was interviewed on G4 this weekend live from Comic Con and he announced that the voice of Optimus Prime will be provided by....

                          Peter Cullen!

Yes, that's right. the one, the only, the original Prime will be back! For me, no other voice would be acceptable for the character. It just wouldn't feel right.

*and for the Disney geeks Cullen has also done a fair amount of voice work on Disney projects, most notably as the voice of Eeyore.
