  • My Favorite DVD's

OK, last week two of my favorite DVD's were released... Both almost completely with out notice... So I need to tell people about them...

    1. The Pirate Movie... Yeah, this is cheesy 80's goodness on a stick... But it has pirates, a love story, quirky humor and music based on Gilbert and Sulivan's the Pirates of Penzance... There aren't many movies that I can watch over and over again... but this one makes me laugh every time...

    2. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.... OK, it is hard to believe... This is Tom Stoppard's finest stage play set to film... And yes, Tom Stoppard wrote the Oscar award winning movie Shakespeare in Love ( a Disney film )... Also a cult classic... Great scenes that inspire you to think about fate and chance... Plus cleaver word play... Definately a must for any collection...

OMG! "Cat from Outer Space" is one of my guiltiest of guilty pleasures. Never has there been a Disney move so awful, and so sublime. The cast alone puts this 1970's Disney formula feature in another league... Ken Berry! Sandy Duncan!! Harry Morgan!!! MacLean Stevenson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps we're the only two people to actually purchase this DVD? Heck, I even bought the movie poster at Sid Cahuenga's at Disney-MGM, and I'm not ashamed to admit it...

Yeah, I liked that one too...

But you know, I had to purchase Candleshoe when it was released... It's fun watching Jodie Foster as a teenager out classing her fellow actors in the movie...

I'd buy it! I bought 2 LCs from 20,000 Leagues when I was there. I love that place!

Candleshoe was my first "favorite" movie, so Jodie Foster was my first "favorite" actress when I was little. She was my hero! She was Becky Thatcher, in Freaky Friday, and in my favorite movie when I was little, so I thought she was brilliant and wonderful. She was everything to me in the 70's....so tough, but she made freckles look cute and I adored her! (Hmmm, I wonder if my daughter feels the same way toward Lindsey Lohan......)

I still  her. I bought Candleshoe not long ago at Target.....I was in NERD heaven. My husband was like, "THIS was your all-time favorite movie?" I loved it so much.....and still do. I was happy to be able to share it with my daughter, who loved it.

And heehee.....the Cat From Outer Space!! I have the tape that my dad copied from a rental copy back in the early 80's! I stole it last year from his video cabinet. It's definitely a guilty pleasure around here. The kids love it!

Okay.....The Pirate Movie.....OMG. I freaking LOVE that movie. I'm glad it's out on DVD. I'll have to look for it this weekend. Kristy McNichol was another favorite of mine (we have the same birthday)...and that one guy from The Blue Lagoon.....so cute back then.

We saw The Happiest Millionaire for the first time last night. We both LOVED it! So silly and cheesy and it has alligators! GY had the soundtrack as a kid and wouldn't shut up. For me, it was just all new, old Disney pleasure from an era that I remember so well.

We're on a Live Action roll!

My favorite DVD's that were from my childhood have to be Labyrinth and The Princess Bride. I had to have those when they came out on DVD.

The original "Millionare"... It is the first "musical" I ever studied... I read the script before ever seeing the movie...

Well you know, I love the character of the Irish buttler... and he has the best songs in the movie... Fatuasity... I'll always be Irish... and Let's have a drink of it... Brilliant examples of what Sherman Brothers could do technically... Not as great as Mary Poppins or as popular as "Let's Get Together" in The Parent Trap... But still, it was brilliant music...

I love Candleshoe... But the Parent Trap was my first "Favorite Movie"... And with out it, I doubt that movies like Addams Family Values would have been as "blissfully terrorfying..." in the summer camp sequences...

I agree. He was very over-the-top, but in a good way.

One thing we realized recently (after having "Let's Have a Drink on it" stuck in our heads for days) was that that is part if the Main Street music loop. I knew Fortuosity was part of that loop, but not the drinking song.

I love it when pieces or trivia come together - I'm still a geek.
