I used to really get into the Kentucky Derby, mainly because circa 1979 I thought I wanted to be a jockey (the Black Stallion movie influence you know). I'm short enough to be a jockey at least!

I haven't watched it for at least 10 years now.

Victoria and I always watch the Derby. We often have a small party too (Even if it's just the two of us!) She comes from a horse racing background. We also follow the Preakness and the Belmont. It's time for another Triple Crown Winner!

I need to go over that list and pick a horse. I never wager any money, but I do like to watch the event. My sister-in-law, has actually made the trip to Kentucky, to watch the event in person. She likes the social aspect of the event, more than the actual race.

            Re: The Kentucky Derby

there are way too many horses in the derby. that's why there isn't a triple crown winner. the crowded field lets a horse that really isn't the caliber needed to run a mile and a half so they win the derby and the preakness but can't win the belmont. and by now there should have been another secretariat or seatle slew.

My family and I used to watch it every year. Now I work Saturdays but I still try to catch it. What time EXACTLY will the actual race begin? Does anyone know?

and is Pat Day still riding? I always pick his horse.

I'd love to go to it someday. And wear a big hat

Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed

Here's your Kentucky Derby Trivia Quiz:

Many years ago, Victoria's father's horse lost The Derby by a nose. This year, 16 out of the field of 20 are descended from this horse.

                What is the horse's name?

Post time for the race is shortly after 3pm Pacific, 6pm Eastern. And no, Pat Day is not riding (at least not in this Derby).

TV coverage (on NBC) begins at 2pm Pacific...
