  • Touchstone Television to Produce 14 Primetime Shows for New Fall Lineup - 5/23/06

As the broadcast networks announce their 2006-07 primetime lineups, Disney's Touchstone Television will add six new series to the eight it already produces.

"Touchstone's new slate builds on the studio's strength of great storytelling that transcends demographics and borders," says Mark Pedowitz, president, Touchstone Television and executive vice president, ABC Entertainment Television Group.

The new series will join a list of returning shows that include "According to Jim," "Desperate Housewives," "Grey's Anatomy," "Lost" and "What About Brian" (ABC); "Criminal Minds" and "Ghost Whisperer" (CBS); and "Scrubs" (NBC).

The following are Touchstone's new shows for the upcoming fall season:

"Betty the Ugly" (ABC, Friday, 8:00 p.m. eastern) - In this one-hour comedy, a charming but "slightly plump plain-Jane from Queens" tries to make it as an assistant to the publisher of a trendy New York fashion magazine. Stars America Ferrera ("The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants"). Salma Hayek ("Frida") is an executive producer for the series.

"Brothers & Sisters" (ABC, Sunday, 10:00 p.m.) - Calista Flockhart ("Ally McBeal") returns to series television, playing a TV commentator dealing with the trials and tribulations of her siblings in this family drama. Rachel Griffiths ("Six Feet Under") also stars.

"Day Break" (ABC) - "Groundhog Day" takes a dramatic turn. Taye Diggs ("Rent") plays Detective Brett Harper, a man who on one fateful day is framed for the murder of an assistant D.A. The problem is he's living the same day over and over again and can't break the cycle until the mystery is solved and his life is back in order.

"In Case of Emergency" (ABC) - "Who you were in high school is usually not who you end up being" is the premise for this half-hour comedy. Four friends endure a series of crises only to realize they've got each other to get through them. Stars Jonathan Silverman ("The Single Guy") and David Arquette ("Scream"). Directed by Jon Favreau ("Swingers").

"Let's Rob . . . " (ABC, Tuesday, 9:00 p.m.) - Eugene Gurkin is stuck in a dead end job with no hope until he comes up with an inspired idea. He'll put together a gang of thieves, break into a ritzy Central Park West apartment and rob . . . . Mick Jagger? Jagger makes a cameo appearance in the pilot episode.

"Six Degrees" (ABC, Thursday, 10:00 p.m.) - From the producers of "Lost" and "Alias" comes a drama that tests the idea we are all connected to every other person by a chain of no more than six people. Six very different New Yorkers will come to realize the connections they have with one another and will be mysteriously drawn together. Jay Hernandez ("Friday Night Lights"), Bridget Moynahan ("Sex and the City") and Hope Davis ("Proof") star.

Touchstone Television also produces "Jimmy Kimmel Live" (ABC) and is a distributor for "The Amazing Race" (CBS).
