    Even God loves sequels
Akiva Goldsman Back for Angels & Demons

    Source: Variety
    May 23, 2006

Striking while the iron is sizzling, Sony has signed "The Da Vinci Code" scribe Akiva Goldsman to adapt author Dan Brown's first religious thriller, Angels & Demons. "Code" grossed $231.8 million worldwide in its first five days.

Though development of Angels & Demons is still in the early stages, the studio's also planning to reassemble The Da Vinci Code producing team of Brian Grazer and John Calley for the project.

No deals are set yet for director Ron Howard or star Tom Hanks to return, but both would have first crack at the project.

"Code" was Brown's second novel centering on Robert Langdon, a Harvard professor who's an expert in religious symbols. "Angels & Demons," published in 2000, introduced the Langdon character.

In "Angels," Langdon's character tries to solve a murder and unravel a plot by an ancient group, the Illuminati, to blow up the Vatican during a papal conclave.

Ooh! Looking forward to it. A&D was actually MORE thrilling than DVC!

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

I don't care for A&D for some reason, it's all to cliche. I don't really know why, but its not captivating me as much as Davinci Code did.

Thats just it. I think A&D's story will portray better in film version than in the book. I think having the visualization actually on the screen will help the story move along better.

I liked Angels and Demons better...

It's interesting. Everyone complains that These books deny God, but in Angels and Demons they scientifilcly prove that God has to exsist by creating matter out of nothing.

It's a good story, the rush through Rome is very thrilling and the whole ceremony to chose a new Pope was some great reading. I'm looking forward to it.

^ Tom Hanks and Ron Howard were both asked about this numerous times during the publicity rounds. The answer is: now that Mr. Brown is past the recent legal dust-ups he has started work on a follow-up to TDVC.

I'm one who prefered A&D too. You did have to suspend your disbelief a bit but it was a good read!
