  • Disney Images on Punxsutawney Phil

I went to the Groundhog Day capitol of the world yesterday. They have a series of "Phil" statues all over town.

Very, very similar to the InspEARation Mickey statues.

One of them, a "stamp" themed statue outside the post office, featured a photo of Walt and images of other Disney Characters.

    Take a look:

Sadly, he is faded a little by the sun, and I don't think the statue is very old yet. I don't know how they plan to preserve them in the future.

Among the other stamps on Phil's back is a great stamp of Walt.

Mickey & Pluto are on his bicep.

Here are some of the other "non-Disney" stamps.

BTW, Punxy is a great place to spend a day (any day, not just Groundhog Day.)

BTW. Heres a little more info on the statue along with a photo of him BEFORE the sun faded him: (note: someone must have ripped the letter out of his hand before I got there!)

"Philatelic Phil" Artist - Alan Bryne. Sponsored by the Employees of the Punxsutawney Post Office. Located on East Mahoning Street in the East End of Punxsutawney in front of the Post Office.

How long have they been out there?

I'd like to visit the town for Groundhog's Day... loved that movie.

Buckeye Chuck is just so boring in comparison!

The Phantastic Phils! project began in early 2004.

I decided to go after watching the film. I recognized some filming locations when I was there. Also the Pantall Hotel advertised that you can stay in Bill Murray's room if you pay extra.
