Is There a War on Piglet? Reuters Says Yes, Turkish Television Says No

    by Jim Geraghty

On the heels of that British office that banned a tissue box that had a Disney character on it, there was a report this weekend that Turkish television was focusing on the nefarious and dangerous threat to Muslim values: Piglet from "Winnie the Pooh."
The cartoon adaptation of A. A. Milne's classic "Winnie the Pooh" will not be seen in at least one nation. According to a Reuters article, the Islamist-rooted government of Turkey, which controls the nation's public television station TRT, has banned showings of the Disney cartoon from public airing... all because of Piglet!
But this morning's paper says the reports aren't true:
Turkish Radio and Television (TRT) said late Saturday media reports that "Winnie the Pooh" and other cartoons featuring pigs had been barred "are untrue and aim to discredit the institution."

In a statement carried by the Anatolia news agency, TRT said it had acquired the exclusive right to broadcast Walt Disney's cartoons and movies in Turkey but added, "the Walt Disney materials have not been acquired yet ... (and) therefore the cartoon 'Winnie the Pooh' does not exist in TRT records and archives."

Islam regards pigs as unclean and prohibits the consumption of pork.
Full Story: Is There a War on Piglet?

The British tissue box incident refers to a news story last Fall where a benefits office in England instructed its employees to dispose of any personal items that depicted pigs, real or otherwise, as they might be considered offensive to Muslims. One of the items removed was a tissue box adorned with the cartoon images of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet. --disneytim--

That is ridiculous it isn't like Piglet is being eaten by Winnie the Pooh. Sometimes I just don't even know what to say....

Doesn't Piglet have enough anxiety issues already? sheesh...give the wee little pig a break!
Just remember without a well written Disney Villain, there would be no point in the Heroes and the Princesses. Have you hugged a Disney Villain today?
