  • Walt Disney Pictures new logo?

I remember hearing a few months ago that there was going to be a new logo for Walt Disney Pictures. Is this just in my mind or is it true? And I thought I heard that it was going to debut in July with Pirates. Please inform me...I am confused.

Someone just started another thread about this same exact thing, but actually fills us in on what it is. Can't wait to see it.

I saw it today when I saw POTC. It was good...it started out with a picture of a nightime scene with a pirate ship (looked like something out of peter pan in london scene if you ask me) and bridge then it panned to what looks like shooting stars then to the castle with fireworks. No tinkerbell (sniff sniff).

It was really grown up looking.

What is the castle supposed to be on the logo?

Disney's revised film insignia is a departure from the studio's decades-old, two-tone blue-and-white logo centered on a spartan white castle, animated by traditional 2D methods. But the new logo also hearkens back to such timeless Disney iconography as pixie dust, Pinocchio's star, a bank of fluffy clouds that Mary Poppins would recognize, a pirate ship and a mythical castle topped with luminescent spires.
"The goal was to create the most elegant, beautiful, magical castle that would represent not only Disney past but also Disney present," said Oren Aviv, president, Buena Vista Pictures Marketing. "The new logo is filled with breathtaking visual sweep, charm, scale and grace that we believe best represents the movies the studio is making today, movies like 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and 'National Treasure,' that have a bigger scope and scale."

When I saw that Crow rip out that man's eye right from it's socket in Pirates, all I could think of was the "sweep, charm, scale and grace" of today's offerings and that magical Disney Castle that came just a minute before it. Then this terrified little boy jumped over the seat next to me into his Father's lap. It broke the spell.

                      Now THATS Disney.

You mean that huge, Florida-looking thing with water flowing through it instead of around it? Yeah, it's there.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Obviously they were more preoccupied with the "2 years in the making" logo instead of making "Chicken Little" a good movie. They have built REAL Castles in less time. Priorities. Gotta love 'em.

The animation of the new logo is great, the artwork in it stunning, but I was a little more than displeased to see that they've ditched the classic Sleeping Beauty Castle icon for a strange, awkward-looking mix between Sleeping Beauty Castle and Cinderella Castle. It just looks.... weird.

                            Oh well.

I'm interested to see what logo they'll use on DVD boxes, soundtrack cases, and movie posters now that they have this fancy, schmancy logo that doesn't look like it will lend itself too well to small-scale printing.

I still don't like it, they took something simple yet elegant and turned it into something gawdy and huge.
