  • Buena Vista Games Announces Collaboration with Konami; Soundtrack for 'Lumines II'

Disney's Buena Vista Games (BVG) has entered an agreement with Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. to release a series of video games using Disney characters and music. The first title to be released will be a Plug 'N' Play version of Konami's popular Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) game.

Dance Dance Revolution Disney Mix will feature Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy and remixes of popular Disney tunes including "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah," "Mickey Mouse March" and "It's a Small World." Highly interactive, the game allows players of all ages and skill levels to participate in a dance competition using a custom Disney dance pad.

"By working with other strong creative leaders in the industry, we are producing innovative games in a variety of different genres that appeal to a broad audience," said Graham Hopper, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Buena Vista Games. "DDR is a fantastic franchise that has the ability to engage players on a variety of levels and is a perfect fit for Disney."

DDR debuted as a home video game in 2001 and has sold over 4 million units in North America.

In a separate announcement this week, BVG revealed the soundtrack for its November release, Lumines II, the follow-up to Lumines, one of the highest-rated games ever for the PlayStation Portable (PSP).

Music videos featured on the game will include:

    "Black Tambourine," Beck
    "Pump It," Black Eyed Peas
    "Star Guitar," Chemical Brothers
    "Gangster Trippin'," Fatboy Slim
    "Hollaback Girl," Gwen Stefani
    "Born to Lead," Hoobastank
    "Lose Control," Missy Elliott

Developed by Q Entertainment, Lumines II is a puzzle based game where players control squares made up of four smaller block pieces to form same-color rectangles. Unmatched blocks pile up until they reach the top of the screen, at which time game play is over. Each level that players advance through will have its own musical theme and sound effects.

"In order to showcase my vision for Lumines II, we needed to find music and videos with just the right tone, mix and energy to incorporate into the game," said Tetsuya Mizuguchi, chief creative officer of Q Entertainment. "I couldn't be happier with the result and am excited to get the game into players' hands."

I'm really suprized that Disney/BVG got Lumines II, considering the first one was a Ubisoft release.

Ditto. Maybe there'll be a Haunted Mansion level? (gets giddy with excitement)
