You know, I really don't know what to think about this one... I guess it is to combat Walmart's Old Roy Dog Food...

It's a pretty bad marketing idea. I mean I knon people over 40 are probably familiar with Old Yeller, but how people have really seen this movie recently? It's not like Disney places any importance on this film other than giving it a great 2 DVD release. If Old Yeller were more a prominant character in modern Disney then it might, MIGHT make sense. But as it stands, it feels like yet another cheap way to cash-in by degrading their rich history of characters.
What if the Hokey-Pokey really is what it's all about?

Is there such a product as Donald Duck Orange Juice still available in retail stores anywhere? I remember that as a kid and never got the connection. Never tasted it either but think it was canned, not a frozen concentrate.

It must've been one of their first food licensing deals. At this late date I believe Old Yeller Dog Food would have a very limited appeal or even name recognition with most consumers.

I read that on www.savedisney.com today.

I don't think I would purchase this brand of dog food. Maybe if Old Yeller had lived to see the end of that movie, it might be a better tie-in.

Or maybe if it came with a complimentary rabies shot

Considering what happens to Old Yeller at the end, this is hilarious.

I wonder if there's a dog version of Mikey's brothers out there - "You try it?" "I'm not gonna try it, you try it!" "I'm not gonna try it..."

SaveDisney.com has a funny poll related to this, by the way -

My fondest memory of Walt Disney was the day Disneyland opened....I was standing next to him - I was 12 years old - he was looking at the gate where people were coming through, he had his hands behind his back, he had a grin from ear to ear, but you could see the lump in his throat and the tear coming down his cheek because his dream had been realized. -- Mouseketeer Sharon Baird, "Mouseke-Memories", Walt Disney Treasures: The Mickey Mouse Club

Yes, there is a Donald Duck orange juice, and, in fact, it's terrific. It's an unsweetened orange juice, and I firt had in in college over 30 years ago, and quickly developed a taste for it. I wonder who Walt and Roy sold the license to...they have it in the local store in the tiny town I live in, but none of the big three supermarkets carry it. Ask for it by name, and if you can do it in a Donald voice, so much the better!

Old Yeller Dog Food sounds like an ad you'd see in National Lampoon, though, with someone posing with a St. Bernard (suitably made up) and the caption, "My dog Cujo foams at the mouth for Old Yeller Dog Food!"

No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public.

This is just as bad as Disney's frozen food line-up:

The products include: Cheddar Treasures, a 1.1 oz. Cheddar crumb coated, crunchy fish nugget featuring Mickey Mouse; Dip Sea Dooz, a 5 oz. crunchy, bite-sized breaded fish nugget featuring The Little Mermaid; Pirate Planks, a 1.3 oz. seasoned, breaded fish strip featuring Peter Pan and Tinker Bell; and Pizza Fins, a 1 oz. crunchy, pizza-flavored, breaded fish wedge with the characters Lilo & Stitch.
                Taken from: This article

Little Mermaid fish nuggets...... so wrong, yet so funny.
