  • Just about 6-7 years too late ...

Wow! Disney finally realized the power of the Internet and Disney geek sites and now wants an official monitor to help keep the news all happy ...

The only problem is the monster is out of the bag. It's not 1997 anymore ... heck, even WAAAAY back then, the Internet had an effect on things like APs, Light Magic, Paul Pressler's rise to power etc ... why does it seem Disney, which used to be ahead of the game in everything they did, is so slow to recognize the obvious?

    >>Disneyland Resort --- DISNEYLAND Resort
    Title: Manager, Photography/Online US-CA-Anaheim

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Disneyland Resort features Disneyland Park, Walt Disney's original theme park; Disney's California Adventure, Disney fun with a whole new attitude; Downtown Disney District, a public esplanade of dining, family entertainment and shopping; the luxurious 745-room Disney's Grand Californian Hotel; the beach-front fun of the 489-room Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel; and the magical 990-room Disneyland Hotel.

The Manager, Photography/Online will lead the team in creating breakthrough multi-media assets to excite newsrooms to produce creative, positive news stories about the Disneyland Resort; work with online fan sites to generate a third-party advocacy group; and work with photo editors to place Disneyland photos in key entertainment and news publications.

The successful candidate will generate creative story ideas that translate into positive news coverage for DLR; oversee the monitoring of key online sites for emerging trends and hot stories that can be leveraged to generate buzz; and emerging stories/issues that might threaten the Disneyland brand.

      ^^^Good one.

I just find it utterly indicative of Disney management being so out of touch/inept that they didn't realize the power of the web and Disney sites until a good decade after they first started appearing.
