    Report: Disney might ditch Gibson

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- There is speculation in Hollywood that The Walt Disney Co. might sell off Mel Gibson's "Apocalypto" after the star's recent misadventures with the law.

Fox News gossip Roger Friedman blogged Wednesday that "Apocalypto" might be sold to Lionsgate, which has marketed much more controversial films, such as Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11."

Bruce Davey, the president of Gibson's Icon Productions, is a tough businessman, however, who could inflict some pain on Disney should it attempt to distance itself from Gibson after his DUI arrest, Daily Variety reported.

Gibson's arrest made headlines around the world when it was reported that he made a series of anti-Semitic remarks while in police custody.
It is possible the latest flap could generate more interest in the film, not less, Variety speculated.

"Apocalypto," an action adventure set during the Mayan Civilization, is scheduled for release Dec. 8.
