I'm sure that Star Wars will make more money.... but that doesn't make it a better film (sad to say )
I dunno I guess that most people gravitate more to Star Wars than any other sci-fi film ever, based on the the themes of good versus evil. Simple yet classic. The Star Wars films deal with fairytale like elements, knights, empires, villians, princesses- its hard not to like it!
Serenity/Firefly...cowboys in space? Really? Pistols and planets where people ride horseback still even though they can fly space ships? Really? Okay I guess so, doesn't seem to be a very well thought out universe if you ask me. I watched the show and I just couldn't get into it. Kinda sad for a guy who has loved everything else Joss Whedon has done.
Now give me pirates in space or naval themes in space- those things I can wrap my brain around. Maybe a show about men who abide by naval rules and do not fire pistols/lasers/phasers/sabers inside big metel tin cans called space ships- wow what a novel concept. Always a pet peeve of mine that no show has ever dealt with. That and sound in space or explosions in space.
I'll still Serenity because I eat up anything sci-fi related but I don't think it will be superior to Star Wars.
I'm a big Whedon fan, but I was disappointed in the trailer. It was missing the Whedon 'zing.' And he's funny and crass, and little of that was visible. I hope they were dumbing it down for one reason or another, or trying to make it look different than Hitchhiker, the film it's attatched to.
I'm sure it's actually going to be a great film-- but I didn't think the trailer makes it the must-see movie that it is.

OHHHHHH man you wanna get some quality Joss humor and zing- check out his recent run on Astonishing X-men- so freaking rad! I am mucho excited he is going back to his empowered female roots soon helming the new Wonder Woman franchise---strong women, geeky men, kick action and Whedon dialogue----I think we got a winner here!

Well, I had to resurrect this thread because my little sis sent me the boxed set and am almost all the way through it. I really like it a lot! Wven though I am not all the way through it, I can;t help but think that maybe the movie's purpose is to answer some things that the show was not able to address because of its abrupt cancellation.
So can anyone tell me why they speak chinese?

The movie is going to be AWESOME. I was at the "Serenity" panel on Saturday at Comic Con, and old Jossie showed us a clip. Let me just say, it gave me such excitement that I was at the edge of seat!
Firefly is such a great show, ah_shucks... you should really try and rent the rest of the episodes. It gets REALLY good.
Well, light travels from the sun. Then, bounces off of our planet, and back into our eyes so we can perceive color. My body can intercept that light and dance around on it!
When quizzed about the 'sound in space' argument, the always witty Whedon responded: "There will be no sound in the blackness of space. On the edge of space, there will be some sound... and on the planets there will be lots of talking."
Whedon was spied by at least one fan at a local San Diego bookstore overnight purchasing the new "Harry Potter" book. For the record, Whedon's favorite "Harry Potter" character his Hermione.

I'm interested in seeing it! I've never seen Firefly, but I'm a SciFi fan and I've heard a lot of good things about it. I'm looking forward to watching it later this week!
